people have lots of information from years of experience that someone else may not have... so preventing someone from doing research has the exact opposite effect and keeps the powerful more powerful.

You can do all the research you want. You just can't be given information directly from someone else. It's a good rule and needs to be implemented on down the chain. It's gotten so bad that high school teams are hiring guides here to have a good tourney.
@BluntTruth73 жыл бұрын
@@jamesw5836 your comment doesn't make sense. Because when you do research i.e. google info or anything online the information is coming directly from someone else. There is no difference from talking to someone and getting info off a website from someone else. I think that getting or receiving info from outside sources evens the playing field especially when you have pros live on the lake your fishing and they know everything about that lake where you don't, how fair is that. Also, it doesn't matter how well you know a lake, it matters how good of a fisherman you are. You can receive all the data in the world about a fishery but if you don't know how to fish, it won't matter. Agree with B on this.
@chrisgore23313 жыл бұрын
David is right. People at the top will ALWAYS try to manipulate the system in their favor. But James is also right. Researching things online is a lot different than hiring guys to fish a lake for a few days before you get there and then handing you GPS locations and the sizes of fish at that locations giving you exact knowledge. But this rule is also about optics, exactly like the random lie detector tests. In modern competitions in a world as full of technology you have to find ways to give people confidence that tournaments with this much money on the line are fair and legit. This rule is perfect for accomplishing this while also helping the big, recognizable personalities have a better shot at finishing near the top. It might only give an illusion of fairness but what sport, or really any endeavor, isn't skewed in favor of the veterans?

It doesn't level the field. Cheaters are going to cheat. Popular bodies of water have tons of public info on the net. And I love the attitude you have toward beating people who rely solely on intel.

Also, I agree with you about the no-information clause. I do not think it levels the playing field…but I also understand why it’s there. Rules are rules only if they are followed. Keep up the EXCELLENT videos. Hope to run into you down here on Hartwell or Greenwood!

The only time that I have seen "information rules" be effective and necessary... was a tourney that saw a team of 4 guys who all split up across the lake and then were texting back and forth about locations of fish. If one found a fishable area, they would all high tail it there and fish it out. Split up again..... you get the picture....... other than that- I agree you still gotta catch'em!

Just came off the Ottawa River for a team Ontario qualifier, and 9 out of the 20 selected are from the area. Unreal time on that river, and I learned a TON - but hot damn, it was a grind.

I think it needs to be implemented on down the chain. What to fish and where to fish changes by the hour. Too many factors at play to say that this guy told me to fish here with this setup won me a tournament. It doesn't work that way 9 times out of 10. Fish move, conditions change, and bait moves. Don't think the rule is necessary at all. But I like figuring things out for myself anyway. Gives me more confidence.

I would like to see a tournament where every angler can only use 2D sonar, say 7 rod limit, no practice days, and every angler get the exact same tackle kit. No other baits can be used other then what is provided the day of the tournament. Everyone gets the tackle kit the night before the start.

100% agree with you, while at the same time I get why it's done. Like every rule, their are always pros and cons. More times than not any information I've received has not worked out. I feel that the fishing changes from day to day, so whatever was working yesterday more than likely is not going to work today. I just switched to the VMC Spin Shot hooks. Other companies have their own version and they work just as well. That style hook seems to work for me a bit better than putting a swivel up the line from hook. That only helped line twist. Hope this helps.

The thing I notice is that there are groups of anglers that share info to help each other do well. It is allowed in the rules since you can share information with a fellow competitor. That does help groups of anglers improve all of average finishes of the group. I would be in favor of the rule being extended to include no information from fellow competitors. That would help even the field for new anglers who have not developed a network of fellow anglers to work with.

Brian, this is what I always say. To bass anglers (the specialist bass anglers in most of north and western Europe are saltwater anglers). Who study and fish for. The European non-striped bass fish. And the saltwater anglers here. Have this. Pretty much figured out.
@academicmailbox77983 жыл бұрын
When I look at things. Such as the ninety mile river. That you chaps are trying to fish. Over there. I'm reminded. Of something that is approaching. The saltwater coast line environment. Which saltwater bass here. Like as well. The saltwater bass here. Are always chasing predators. Who chase after smaller predators. Who chase after small bait fish. Who can be themselves. Very small predators. It looks like that. The goby are chasing after something. The perch are after goby. And the bass are after perch. The problem is though. How do you imitate a perch? Even a junvenille one. Certainly not. With a soft plastic Ned. That's for certain. I know how you would do it. With fly fishing. To create that kind of profile. Of the perch. I know there are solutions. Made of plastic. To do that in conventional angling. But good look with that. Those are just ridiculous and clunky. And made for pike anyhow. Not bass.
@academicmailbox77983 жыл бұрын
I'm almost tempted to say. Wooden, hand painted. Deep diving crank baits. And I don't quite know. What I say that. It's nothing like a perch. But what it can do. Is suggest something. That is less apologetic for itself. Than a soft plastic worm. That is definitely for sure. Presuming the goby are hunkering down. At the bottom. And juvenille predator species. Such as perch. Are chasing them. The bass are then. Following the perch. What do you do? Do you go with something. Like a football bait? A spinner bait? I don't honestly know. What soft plastic will give you. For certain. Is reassurance. Of remaining in contact. With that sixteen pound bag at least. Which as you point out. Isn't enough. It doesn't get you. Quite to the starting blocks. Even though. Sixteen pounds is still. An entire day's work.
@academicmailbox77983 жыл бұрын
And then if you go. With a crank bait. You might have one or two specimens. Without the Ned rigs. You might miss your limit. I don't know what kind of strategy. That looks like. Or that implies. But it's probably. A 'mixed bag' of tricks. Of some kind. Certainly not. One thing. Because one thing. Won't check all of the boxes. That do need. To be checked. I have to frankly admit. That when you showed that Perch. I went 'gulp'. A little. Because that's a big bait. It's not a small bait. And it's a hard profile. To suggest too. It's not long and straights. It's more like a vertical dinner plate. Does that suggest. Some kind of blade?
