i wasnt going to participate since i'm already working on a number of large projects, but i did some math and found some spare yarn. my plan is to reduce the width down to about a quarter and double the length for a glorious blanket scarf. i think im going to make two identical panels simultaneously and slip st them together to keep in time with the video releases. i already finished the first portion of the first panel for this week and it looks better than i could have imagined! thank you for the inspiration! oh and my jaw literally dropped when you did the first waterfall stitch, im REALLY happy to have learned this one!

That's great. Do you know what the multiple is to change the size, I was unable to figure that out.
@28pinkdancer2 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrochetCrowd unfortunately its not one consistent multiple, and i ended up using a stich count that was both a multiple of 5 (for the squares) and 8+3 (for the diamonds). i ended up with a chain of 37, like your sample, so i assume we did similar math? this worked out exactly to what i wanted thankfully, but different sizes would probably need to do some deeper pattern manipulation

When you start a new colour or row you say to put tail under and then cut the straggler off after a few stitches but when we end a colour we need to end it with sewing the yarn in 3 different directions so it wont fall out. Won't it all fall out after just at the beginning where we snip it off at the beginning? Hope this all makes sense. Thank you so much for all your lessons. You are my #1 for learning new things.

If you feel more confident, bury the yarn under the stitchwork and then use a tapestry needle to hide the rest of the tail in. That may help you.

If I want to make a bigger size ,what will be the multiples ?
@TheCrochetCrowd2 жыл бұрын
The multiples are really difficult to figure out as all three concepts are a different stitch count. I've not been able to figure it out but all stitches have to line back up. You may be able to figure that out if you go through the diagrams. I was't successful.

If you want to add more rows you can. The stitch counts in the multiples are really tricky as the the 3 types of waterfall concepts aren't in the same stitch count as each other. So the changing of the width I haven't been able to figure it out.
@juliedefilippisimpson92152 жыл бұрын
Only 3 rows in, but I am loving the new stitch. My only issue is that the ombre yarn is splitting and that is making it kind of tricky. Very unusual for Caron yarn. Hopefully it is temporary. Thanks for walking through the stitch slowly! It really does pick up once you get it.

I got the MC Caron Jumbo from Joannes but they did not have the Caron jumbo ombres online or in store. I ended up in store looking for a sub. Red Heart is not my favorite but am subbing with a RH blue ombre and an orange and red ombre. So far it is working out fine, and swatched ok but it is "splitty" compared to the Caron yarn. Just thought I would throw that out for anyone who can't find the Caron jumbo ombre.
@28pinkdancer2 жыл бұрын
Oh i am also using red heart ombre! i definitely second that its not my favorite and it is more "splitty" so not the easiest to work with for beginners. but i honestly love their ombre colors more than the caron and you can find them anywhere like at walmart. im also using loops and threads impeccable in the color heather as the main color, and its makes the project softer overall, rather than the whole thing being red heart

What what is the multiple? for making different overall sizes.
@TheCrochetCrowd2 жыл бұрын
There's no multiple for this one. Because of the different types of shapes made, each are a separate multiple of each other. So the chain has to be crocheted as is or the different shapes won't blend together like you see in the picture.

i wanted to make a scarf so heres some things i took note of when reducing the pattern: the stitch multiple for the squares is 5, the stitch multiple for the diamonds is 8 +3. the chevrons dont seem to matter as even the original pattern cuts them off in the middle; so i personally did not consider the chevrons when doing my math. the simplest way for me was to find a multiple of 8+3 that was also a multiple of 5, for the number of stitches i wanted. since i wanted my pattern to be about 1/4 of the original width, that number was 35 stitches for me. 8x4=32, 32+3=35; 5x7=35. this means my final pattern will include 7 squares across and 4 diamonds across. then, since the first three stitches count as a stitch in the starting chain, my starting chain would need to be 34+3, which is 37 for a total of 35 working stitches (about 10.5" following the recommended gauge by the way.) so it can definitely be manipulated to suit your needs! hope my maths can help you get started if you decide to change up the pattern!

Is this waterfall stitch used throughout the blanket? It looks like it is. If that’s the case, I give up. I think you are a great teacher Mickey and I love your videos but this stitch and I do not get along. I’m going back to my inset mosaic pattern that I love. I’d share a picture but you can’t leave those in the comments.

Geez. I don't know how to help you. I posted direct links on this comment thread yesterday with the direct to the PDF. I'm unsure why those links aren't working for you.

HELP! Mikey, I have chained the 157 and have 15 repeats of 5 dbl crochet and 5 chains. But I'm ending with 5 chains and I'm supposed to end with 5 dbl. I've counted and worked this several times. Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Remind me to circle back. I have to look at the stitch diagram at another time.

This blanket looks WOW…I really want to make this one….is the pattern available? I have done a mosaic blanket which was a challenge at first….do you think I could do this? It is like sometimes I am a beginner, and sometime intermediate…..you were the very first person I watched on KZbin once I had healed and was able to crochet….I have learned so much from you and I love your little jokes….if this is written pattern how can I find it? I have made 5 of 50 and I like to save patterns for next year….you are wonderful …..ty for the concise toot….

Yes, the pattern is available as of today. Just follow the link in the video description. I'm glad you could pick up this hobby and run with it. It gives me a lot of joy. Always too many patterns on our minds.

I love this pattern, but I hate the waterfall stitch. It’s not the easiest of stitches to do. I will keep trying. I want to learn it. I’ve been crocheting for 39 years and have never heard of the waterfall stitch before.

This yarn is mighty thin that’s why I like red heart yarn

Okay noted. I'll let JOANN know you prefer Red Heart for the future. I don't have choices of brands.

The top of my waterfall stitch has a loop on the wrong side. It's like the first YO is too loose. Or is the rest of my stitch too tight? What am I doing wrong? 😕
@TheCrochetCrowd2 жыл бұрын
Strange why the top is on the wrong side. I don't know why that would be happening to you. I cannot see your motion from this text message to know how you are doing it differently.
@marybethmaas35512 жыл бұрын
@@TheCrochetCrowd what I mean is there's like slack on the back side near the top. I'll watch the steps again. Thanks the reply. This is a really beautiful blanket and I don't want to give up.

@@marybethmaas3551 I had the same thing happen with me but you just have to keep ripping it out and doing it over until you get the right tension. He told me to keep practicing and thats what I did. Mine's fine now with no more slack on the back. Bit tedious at first but now I'm breezing through it

I so dislike this 'back hump' beginning. Other than that this is a beautiful pattern. Thank you Joanne and Mikey!

Then don't do that. That's my own preference so the border will hold together better on that edge. If you don't like it though, do it the way you prefer.
