I was with Matthias when he first played a Strat on KBPI radio in Denver.Matthias,Rudolph and myself.I won a guitar contest and got to meet the Scorps on the "Face the Heat" tour.I won a Gibson Nighthawk,I brought my Jackson and there was a Strat.Rudolph played the Nighthawk,I played mine and Matthias had to play the Strat and he was NOT pleased anyway we played the end of the "Zoo" They gave the Strat to Matthias and the rest is history !!!!!

Looks like he was adjusting string height.I do my intonation on my mexi strat. My studio les is more of a pain to get right. I need to take it to my local guitar guy.

I reckon every guitar tech worth his salt would want to give him a slap for this! You shoud never, EVER adjust the height of a Floyd style trem (Or any other that uses fulcrum posts) while the strings are under tension! It CAN cause flat spots on the knife edges and even groves in the mounting posts which can affect tuning stability. I'm not saying it WILL, but it CAN!! (I know from experience! Even a real Floyd, a Schaller own brand and a Gotoh can have this happen. Ive had to fix it for folks)

I would suppose this would be true only if you were using cheap floyd specials. Otherwise, poster is full of it. If you lessened the string tension every time you made an adjustment, you would have to guess every time ...taking an inordinate ammount of time. Hate to burst your bubble, but they are made for on the fly adjustment. The only time you would create any unnatural bind is if you had one side way higher than the other in which you would notice a pop or bump feeling when you used it. By the way, knife edges wear no matter what over time..especially zink alloy ( copper ) ones. Otherwise this is perfectly normal. Ive played for 40 years and have been to many techs...

yeah i have around 7 guitars with Floyds and yeah it's more safe do it without strings tension but I just have that problem with a cheap Floyd, I adjust sometimes with tension and never have this problem maybe because the other Floyds are original German Floyd rose , yeah but it's better do it without strings tension you never know just in case..

I have all Floyd originals now and the EVH version. I adjust them just fine under tension. Once set, you rarely do it again. Never had a flat spot or dimple. The non-originals are cheap material. They go flat and dimple just playing them let alone adjusting under tension. Seriously, I adjust them once every six months. Does nothing.
