I did this, but I used styrofoam, filler and blue velvet cloth. I glued the foam together on the ends to get the width I needed. I glued down the filler to the styrofoam, put the cloth over, used long pearl headed push pins so they easily slid into the foam. I then gently pulled the fabric taught and pinned it all around the back of the foam and glued it so it would stay. I have an adjustable frame so I just stuck it to the wall above the bed with 3M adhesive strips. Very light and easy to move. Took me less than 2 hours not including glue drying time. Its very elegant.

YES!! Now all she needs is three matching frames with complimenting photos in that space above the headboard (or mirrors, whatever floats your boat) and floor to ceiling curtains on those windows to make the space look put together. That headboard made such a huge difference.

Try using deck nails, they are spiraled, will still go in sraight and will not pull out. Also my pet peeve in diy projects is, the back is never finished, at least, a cheap coat of paint and a strip of same fabric folded over, say 3 inches wide glued over raw edges on back to look like a finish binding, then it could be used anywhere for different projects. Fabulous idea, washers are genious and tufting due to washers is fabulous !!!

Tips: made King size according to tutorial. The 9.5 in spacing did not work out well...until I realized I needed to start from the center with the first row. Also there was a lot more than 5.5 in. on the bottom, but then realized that's behind the bed so it didn't matter. The button kit is a little tricky, so get extra's. It helped to used a little hammer to pound the blue thing that seats the back on the button. Put some kind of drop cloth around the hole when using the glue to put the buttons on. It oozes at inopportune times. I haven't hung it on the wall yet, but I'm really happy with the looks of it. I made it with brown faux suede I found at the second hand store for only $5.00! (Kinda makes up for the extra I spent buying the wrong size mattress pads to begin with). Thank you Chelsea for this video!

made my first padded tufted head board in 96, First it is easier to cut the foam with an electric knife, make the marks on the plywood, the using an upholstery needle through a small hole you drilled in the plywood on the marks. leave the loop on the button and pull it through using piano wire makes a stronger hold on the tuft. work you way out from the center before you staple the fabric and batting down

thanks SO SO much for this tutorial! i did it this weekend and it worked out almost perfectly. the only problem i had was with the nails, as they came loose again because my fabric was pretty thick and not elastic whatsoever 🤷🏻♀️🙈 i drilled some holes into the plywood and just used screws and nuts instead of nails. it looks so amazing, so thanks again 😍

@sidetongue7 жыл бұрын
wasn’t cheap, guess in total around $150.. the plywoood was like $25, i ordered some thick foam for around $45 and the fabric i chose was an additional $45. what kinda annoyed me were the price of the buttons, which was like $1 per button. if u‘d buy a cheap topper and donut like in the tutorial and get a cheaper fabric, different buttons, i guess you could do it for ~$60/70. on the other hand, i really really do love it. def gonna take it with me when i’m moving, everyone is asking me about it and complementing on it :)

I like the video but when I went to buy "Queen" mattress pads from wal-mart like the video suggests they only come in 77" length and a King bed is about 79" in width. When I pulled it out of the packaging it only comes out at 72". Curious on where you got some to "cut access" off or to fit a King headboard width wise. It would also be nice if you posted measurements of at least the board you used but just mention that the size can vary for preference on high, width and size of the bed.

so a question: how wide was the headboard? and how much wider does the fabric need to be? Im thinking because you nailed it down, it actually "eats" at the width of it. would really like to know how much wider the fabric should be. Thanks for a great video!

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward in attempting to create my own head board. May I ask a question? I've just ordered a queen sized bed that goes forward and down how would I create a stand for it to sit just a little higher is it even possible?

Use screws and washers but cut a small hole in the fabric brfore you start the screw. It works great as I have tried both methods and screws and washers was much easier.
