What a ridiculous comment. I don’t understand all the people bitching about the moves or going “white can just trade knights” Yes, obviously! This is of theoretical interest and it’s good to have seen the line in its entirety to see what black wishes to accomplish with the opening. And perhaps you’ll be able to apply the same ideas in a different situation. It’s a great example to show beginners what a smothered mate is and how one COULD accomplish it. Obviously you will teach beginners opening principles and such as well, because tricks are for kids as Ben Finegold says.

ANY video title containing the words "trick" and "chess" should be avoided. Sure, there's plenty of players who "hope" you go willingly into a prepared line and get greedy, only to find yourself in a dark alley getting mugged! I've been playing since age 5. I'm 62. If you play solid moves, this opening will never occur. Sorry! You're just teaching junk food chess! This garbage is the stuff that will keep you being a patzer for DECADES! I know, I was that guy who could beat anyone below 1400, but beat a seasoned tournament player of 1600+ NEVER! My middle names were "unsound sacrifices" that led to mate. MINE! "I'll show you! I'll hurt me!" "Who needs chess theory!?"

Quick question, I am still confused on the difference between checkmate and stalemate. In one game, my opponent playing black had his king at e8. His knight was on the left of the king at d8, and one of his pawns on e7. My queen moved to g8 making a check. My opponent’s king could not move to d7 since my knight was at c5. Would that simply have been a checkmate rather that just a check? Or a stalemate draw?
@dalkap
@dalkap 3 жыл бұрын
It's pretty simple, just take a situation where your opponent has no legal moves: - If the King is in check, it is a checkmate, and you win the game - If the King is not in check, it is a stalemate, and the game is drawn :) If you give check, you know for sure that it isn't a stalemate, but you don't know for sure that it is a checkmate. But keep in mind that even if your opponent's King cannot move, maybe they still have other pieces (even a pawn) that can move, and therefore it isn't a stalemate. Hope that helps!
@jestmi2124
@jestmi2124 3 жыл бұрын
If king is currently under a check and can't move anywhere or block with another piece it's a checkmate (just like in your example). If king is safe where he stands, but none of the pieces can move anywhere it's a stalemate, keeping in mind that king can't move into position where he'd be under a check (eg black: pawn a5, king h8; white: pawn a4, king g5, queen g6; black's turn - it is a stalemate, king is safe but black can't make any move). Hope that helps!

Ahh, The Italian gambit. I’ve seen this work anywhere from 500-1200, but once you fall for it once you won’t again.

1. You didn't move the rook to safety. The queen could have easily taken it in any of the three spaces available to it. 2. That isn't check mate as the bishop can easily take the knight and protect the king

Watch the video again. It is checkmate. If bishop were to take knight it would give direct path for queen.

If you play with a high rated player, he would play a ponziani or something
He forced 11-move checkmate with no Queen. You won’t believe this.
