This came from my stream on August 24th, 2021. Catch me live 11AM-4PM weekdays here: / northernlion
I'm playing on Chess.com -- these aren't sponsored videos but the site seems pretty cool.
Chess is coming back again (again)! With Twitch Rivals coming up this week, I thought it was high time to dip my toes back into the world of the 64 squares. Wish me luck!

I love the idea that NL just has a folder titled “thumbnail faces” and they’re just aptly named things like “surprised” “happy” and “cursed”

Northern I watch a LOT of chess content on KZbin but these videos are the only ones I have to watch and not just have in another tab. You get bullied and play very passive but once you get into the attacking mode it’s gigga-Egg strats. Much love

Man that position with all the pieces ready to attack the king side, castling King side was the way to go, the king would be very safe behind them and the rook already on f1. Leaving the king in the center might be good too, but queen side castle I think the engine will say it's a blunder

Queenside castle in the KID? Nono! That's not how it goes. The idea of the KID is usually that black will have play on the kingside with a sameside castling pawnstorm while white will break through on the queenside. Now when your opponent is basically expected to break through on the queenside, you shouldn't be putting your king there. Separately from this opening, which is fairly specific, a more general advice is that the pawns point towards where you should play. Here white's pawns pointed queenside and black's pawns pointed kingside.

good discussion on the merits of not resigning. It remains true, even above 1900 that people will make mistakes and lose a winning position. I would only consider resigning against an IM or GM. an IM that I follow will even attempt stalemate traps in his losing positions to salvage a draw

I thought I understood chess but wtf happened to his pawn around 13:03? Pawns can move diagonally in front of a passing pawn and capture it? What? I've never seen that.
@mikahamari5994
@mikahamari5994 2 жыл бұрын
It is called "en passant". He says that expression around 12:56. The rule was introduced when pawns could move two squares at the first step. Earlier they didn't, so this move gives opponent possibility to capture them as if they had moved only one square. Here the white pawn in d5 takes black pawn as if it were at square c6 instead of c5.
