Republic of Ireland, go dapping for trout using a grasshopper or daddy long legs for bait If you’ve never done it before it’s definitely something to try. Mayflower season makes it just too easy so late July or August I would suggest. Favourite venue would be loch Mask and the scenery is stunning with the evening spent exaggerating about the biggest fish while quaffing some lovely Guinness. . . . . Enjoy

Mate you don’t need them at all if you’ve got a good very light drag or baitrunner, 25 yrs I been dead baiting and 13 years ago had to use the baitrunners after I went away for 3 days and forgot my drop offs, had a brilliant few days and not once did any run drop the bait, I never used them again after that and have never had pike drop baits or certainly no less than with drop offs, it’s another complete myth the "any resistance whatsoever and they’ll drop it” saying!

If you don't have drop off indicators, you can open the bail arm and put the line in the line clip on the rod. Does the same job as the drop off. I have caught loads of pike using this method

Using drop offs rather than bobbins will help with the resistance/change in resistance, clip up against the spool then it’s instant zero resistance on a take with an open bail arm, great video and great shots nice one

Hey bud, nice video, I enjoyed your outline plans for 2025, I’ve been on a similar journey too, increasing my species count, taking up sea fishing and more fly fishing. As a West Country lad you’re in a great spot to do it. Wild brown trout in the Exmoor streams, Huge grayling in the Frome, Estuary Mullet, Bristol Channel rays, and countless mini species on the LRF in rockpools and harbours (Montague’s Blenny anyone!) but beware the weevers!! I moved to N. Devon 2 years ago and already added 25+ new species to my list, and still feel like I’m just scratching the surface and spending too long getting frustrated over mullet on the fly! Oh, and have a word with Sean at Snagged Bro, I’m sure he’s got some tips on getting better hook ups with the Poik (oops, I slipped into my native East Anglian there!). All the best!

I had a Cheddar tench obsession for a while many years ago. Never caught anything over 5 and a half pounds.. I hear they they are all over 7 pounds now. Caught two pike over 15 on the one day I went piking there. Sink and draw sardine was the killing method. There are some very large roach in there also. As for collabs how about The Ginger Fisherman? He can show you some great Yorkshire rivers.

Relatively local to me! I've been meaning to deadbait it. I'd like to see you catch monster perch in Europe. Be sick to win a day's fishing at cheddar
@FEddieP15 күн бұрын
If you haven't got the proper pike drop off bite indicators (which are surprisingly expensive) you can set the bobbins up on the rear butt rests so the bobbins are under the reels and then open the ball arms. When you get a clip out the bobbins drop off and the line is free flowing so less resistance. In essence it works the same as the proper drop off indicators. Just make sure the bobbin tension isn't too high so the line can pull out of them easily enough
@johnbaird286913 күн бұрын

Another great Video 🎣 as you are looking to do more types of fishing and a Collab suggestion....can I nominate myself 👋🏼 just starting but would be awesome 😎
@tommytomtom56013 күн бұрын
Definitely get some drop off indicators. You can then fish with bail arms open so the pike feels very little resistance on the take. Also worth letting them run a little longer before setting the hooks. The fish will often grab the deadbait side on, swim off and flip it head first before swallowing. That I think is why your fish was only just hooked. You do need to balance this with the risk of a deep hooked fish. Experience will tell you when to hit the take.
@SkiSummer14 күн бұрын
Some specimen fishing for often forgot species in line with the calendar for those species! So spring tench fishing, summer carp fishing, autumn river fishin, winter piking?
