While Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong's stoner comedy was decidedly silly, their financial success allowed Marin to pursue a serious passion of collecting Chicano art. Now, some 30 years after he bought his first painting, Marin is about to have his own museum - the first in the country to focus solely on Mexican-American art and culture. Anthony Mason reports.

Good Job Cheech! It has taken this long to find someone that has such passion for Chicano art. He won't Sell one piece= he loves the art so much. I think we all grew up seeing Cheech as an uncle. Tio Cheech!

Where can I donate? I saw a bit of his collection when it came to the El Paso Museum of Art. It was a street festival and so much fun.

I'm a Riverside resident and looks like it's finally happening. I just wish they wouldn't have to close this historic, over 100 year old LIBRARY for a contemporary art museum. Wish they would of just used another building. I feel like they are tearing down a piece of Riversides important history.

Much props to Cheech, I'm glad he's finally came back around, when he was doing Nash Bridges he was extremely shying away from his Cheech & Chong persona, which kind of broke my heart a little, but i get it, everyone moves on at some point. I'm just proud to have him back.

I love cheech 0 but this is far from the nation's first Latino museum. National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago is free and has been around for many years.

The term Chicano is normally used to refer to someone born in the United States to Mexican parents or grandparents and is considered a synonym of Mexican-American. A person who was born in Mexico and came to the United States as an adult would refer to him/herself as Mexican, not Chicano. Maybe that’s the difference.
