More likely to just run away, at least, from what I've seen. There are some videos of Mongolian researchers retrieving them from their dens/hiding spots to take measurements and check their health out in the wild, and they barely even resist, and don't struggle when they're held firmly by several people in the course of examining them. I'm sure some are feistier than that, but they certainly don't seem inclined to attack people. More shy and stealthy than anything else. I'd certainly be less nervous in a Pallas cat enclosure than a tiger's LOL. Some Japanese zoo videos show them behaving very much like a domestic cat with their keepers, easily being handled/cleaned and even playing. There's also a channel by some Russian guy--I don't know the literal name of the channel because it's all in Russian, but basically it tells the story of his family's Pallas cat. They live out in the country (farmers maybe?) and found her as an orphaned kitten and raised her with their own cats. Eventually they let her choose to return to her wild life, but I think (from what the bad translation seemed to be saying) that they still see her out there sometimes so she did not go far. She was certainly very affectionate and comfortable with them in their home, and got along okay with their cats though she was apparently a bit of a handful for them, LOL. I should add, I'm not advocating for Pallas cats to be forced into domestication, trafficked for sale to horrible "collectors" or anything like that. Just that they *appear* to be potentially more adaptable to human company than a lot of wild cats. Less like a tiger and more like a deer or a raccoon, perhaps, in that sense. This may serve them well in the future as they are becoming threatened due to poaching for their fur. :-( Should they eventually become really endangered, I hope that people will get better at helping them breed in captivity/preserve or sanctuary situations so that their numbers can be rebuilt and sustained.

Not more dangerous than a wild serval or a 3rd/4th generation feral house cat of similiar size. That said, imo, wild cats of all sizes should be allowed to remain wild and not infringed by humans as much as humanely possible for their safety and well beeing. And domestic cats should be kept indoors or confined to catios of suitable size, both to protect our cats and to protect local wildlife.

Their small size (Pallas cat has the body size of a small house cat wearing more fur than two Norwegian forest cats combined) says they purr and meow and yowl instead of roaring like big cats.

Every time I watch those Gremlins, I hold my fluffy girl at home and give her big kiss and listen to her PURRR...Manuls' round pupils make them look out of cartoons. I can not beleive some describe them "devilish", I would eat them alive between to slices of bread.

I know your comment is old, but I want to thank you for making it. I've been a fan of the Manul, or Pallas's cat since childhood. Never saw one for real, & am pretty sure I never will. They don't normally do well in captivity, & though their cuteness does bring interest to the species, it scares me, as I see so many comments about people wanting to have them as pets. Out of curiosity I did a Google search & to my horror, I found more than a few sites selling Manul kittens. They were advertised for $1,500-$2,500 American. Research & education in order to return them to the wild is great, but one American zoo's channel says they're breeding them to sell to other zoos that want them. Another Japanese place feeds them horse meat. When in nature would a Pallas's cat ever eat horse meat?? Chicken or rabbit would be far closer to their natural food choices. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for your sensible & caring comment. Let's hope there is a decent future for the Manuls. All the best to you.

​​@@Howiesgirl Manuls are steppe living, they definitely eat both horse and caribou in the wild if they come across either of those as carrion or near death from hypothermia. They can't afford not to, once larger predators like bears, wolves, tigers or eagles aren't around to kill them for posession of the meat. Fully agree with you on all points otherwise.

@@SonsOfLorgar I guess maybe I could have worded it better? I've no doubt they'd eat pretty much anything when hungry enough. I just meant that they wouldn't be able to take down a horse on their own to eat. I get that they will eat carrion of any variety- I was just surprised that a very well-known facility was feeding them things that they don't normally hunt for in the wild, that's all. I totally understand that when in the wild they must eat what is available. But you would think that when in captivity, their keepers would try extra hard to feed them all their favorite foods. They really are a special little animal, aren't they??

We've been told repeatedly by animal-behaviorists that cats do not meow at each other but only at humans. This video --- unless it's fake --- demonstrates that this is apparently not the case. And these are not tame household moggies, but a wild species that have its origin high on the steppes of central Asia. They are in no wise a domesticated feline and it is highly unlikely any of them would want to say anything to a human. They aren't even easy for zoos to keep in captivity due to an immune system that doesn't travel well. As these ones are obviously meowing to each other, the experts may be wrong on this one.
