I’d been meaning to watch these clips for awhile now, because despite being very young, I too felt the sting of Shelley’s exit from the show! I loved she and Ted’s banter, and I just think she’s hilarious! Although, had she never left Cheers, she never would’ve made Hello Again or Outrageous Fortune.

@@Brandon-lw1wx Well you can have the best writing, best comedy but that doesn't guarantee that you won't lose to a ordinary show - we see movies of today's times in that - men & women in tights beating up bad guys - same stupid story recycled over and over & people, like sheep, rewarding these movies . Some shows are flops during their time - like Star Trek - and only later do they go on to become huge hits . Time will tell - I bet that going forward, the episodes of Shelly Long will be more in demand than the later shows with Kirstie

She resigned half way through season 5 in December 86 so considering much of the episodes were broadcast or written by then it proves it isn't so. It is more likely that the writers had exhausted the Diane/Sam plot by season 5 so it was beginning to crack.

@@shanefolan No Shelley said she told them she'd be leaving during production of Season 4 as that's when Ted extended his contract to six years but Shelley didnt as they knew she planned to leave when her 5 year contract expired as she'd signed a movie deal with Disney.

I can assure you that Shelley said she told them during Season 4 so they had a lot of time to prepare for the direction they were going in without her. I hated both leads characters. But Diane was the more bearable woman on the show. I hated Kirstie alleys character. She was just a shallow gold digger. Found them both annoying but at least Shelly wasn't nearly as shallow..
