Looks fantastic. I have eaten my share of this cake in my youth. I was however not aware of how labor intensive it is to make. I appreciate it even more now.

In summer I make one after the other, sometimes switching to greek yogurt instead of quark to make things easier.

i was trying to make a slightly different rendition of this, like only baked cake on the bottom and then cream all the rest of the way up. i am SO GLAD i stumbled somehow on this video of this german cake in english because while my german is pet fluent conversationally, i am slow at listening and the technical baking words are unfamiliar. I made this cake when i lived in Germss as ny for a few months, because I came across it and loved it and was dying to make it. I ran into some issues following online recipes, and this video became my saving grace when you casually mention that you can use Greek yogurt and just add more gelatin. I cant thank you enough! Your accent is so cute by the way lol

I have a greater appreciation now for the effort the German bakery at home puts in to their desserts, especially Käsesahnetorte. By the way, we pronounce it tan-ger-ine, not tang-er-ine.

One thing that I would recommend is to fold in the cream into the quark instead of wisking it. That way you keep all of the light air from the whipped cream

Such a pretty cake! I wish I owned a Kitchenaid but I guess a hand mixer would work too. I have seen Vanilla sugar in small packets at some markets. In the midwest we always say mandarin oranges 😊
@MyGermanRecipes3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely use a handmixer. Kitchenaid mixers are not very common in Germany. Most ppl have a hand mixer.

Thanks for this wonderful recipe but you have omit baking powder in the recipe or is it not compulsory in this recipe?
@MyGermanRecipes3 жыл бұрын
This recipe is without baking powder so the cake doesn't create a dome. The fluffiness comes from the beaten eggs.

There is one brand of quark available in The U.S that I know of called Wünder quark. It’s really good, but probably not as good as the home made recipe.
@MaZEEZaM3 жыл бұрын
Given gelatine is always added to hot liquid, I always wondered why you couldn’t dissolve it directly in said liquid but people always prepare it in cold water first.

Can you use Mascarpone instead of Quark?
@MyGermanRecipes2 жыл бұрын
I think mascarpone is a bit too dense.

This recipe looks really good I have a question for you I don't have quark and I heard what you said about the cream cheese being slightly salty do you think I could substitute 250 g of Greek yogurt and 250 g of cream cheese whisk together at room temperature as a substitute I think it might work what do you think

@jeffgillette33643 жыл бұрын
@@lauraellen189 I was looking at that mixture when she showed it I got to thinking a little bit more about its texture I don't know too much about the Icelandic mixture you were talking about because I'm a self-made cook I taught myself at a very early age I think it would be more like 2/3 Greek yogurt and 1/3 cream cheese after I seen her mixture of whipped cream
@lauraellen1893 жыл бұрын
@@jeffgillette3364 that is probably a good estimate. I really want to make this cake because it is beautiful!

I've started making this today ... my tin is 9 inches so I left out a bit of the mixture.... but now I think its too thin. Its probably not even half an inch once sliced. May end up having to bake a second cake for the second layer whoops 😭😂 Update * woke up to slice the cake today. It was so soft and thin that it stuck to the plate i used to weigh it down while slicing. I didn't notice so when I lifted the plate half the cake fell off onto the floor 😭😭. I tasted a bit that landed on the counter and it was really sweet and had a funny stale flavour too which im also so confused about because none of my ingredients are fresh ..... Im going to quickly bake another cake today and make it still !!😭😂

Hey, give yourself some credit! You’re trying. My lazy butt is sitting on the couch watching this and eating thin mints. 😄Better luck next time!

You could have done with an old fashioned flour sifter. Ok, you used one at the end lol.

Looks good and interesting to watch but with all those steps and having to make the quark as well this is probably something I’d never do. There are so many other things out there to experience and make and not so time consuming. Why it is entitled “No bake”, if the cake needs to baked? Enjoy!
