Also, thank you for the tip on the buttermilk - I'd never heard of that before, but it makes total sense. I may never buy it again if I can keep topping up. You're a treasure - thank you!

My mother used to whip up a batch of biscuits and homemade soup for many occasions, neighbors who are sick, a death in the neighborhood, new mother's with babies, etc. Her biscuits were known on our street as the best around. And she never gave me her secret ya know. Then you came along and showed me Bev, the grated butter trick. Well I make fluffy biscuits now to and yeah I don't measure anymore either. I can tell by the feel. Oh yeah and dumplings for stew to. I just use regular 2% milk and butter. When I started Living on my own at 20 years of age in 1980, i used to cook a chicken on the weekend then make soup or stew, but then I used bisquick or teabisk to make them.
