Good evening everyone ❤ a nice wee simple one tonight…but it’s delicious 😋

Salutations! Oh and I forgot to say I love the twice baked idea for this type of dish. I make dishes like this ahead because it tastes even better after the second bake, but wait to add the cheddar and panko for the second bake.

Hi from Jamaica, as a child in wartime I learned to make this with square sausage and beans . A sprinkle of cheese was a whole week’s ration. My dad liked it after a cold Saturday at Ibrox .Potatoes are almost a luxury here at the moment, but that dish brings back happy memories of a wet Glasgow day.

I used to have a family friend who was Scottish that used to make somethjng similar for her Grandsons which they called it the bean thing. It was basically a tin of beans and sausages with the occasional addition of chipolatas topped with mash potato and grated cheese and baked in the oven. She sadly passed away 3 years ago and I've made it several times since and I absolutely love it and you sound like her with your lovely Scottish accent!

I concocted a similar dish about 55 years ago when money was tight. I layered mash with finely chopped onion, corned beef and sliced tomatoes topped with cheese. My children loved it, i still do it today for myself as its still cheap and nutritious.

My very food-fussy Son has just had this for the first time for his tea & he gives it a Solid 9/10……& I didn’t even have to ask him what he thought, he offered the Information as soon as he’d finished eating. Well done for satisfying his fussy palate.

I saw a similar recipe mentioned in Reddit, and found this. I made it before leaving for work this morning, and it was a BIG hit at our house. I added half a can of corned beef fried up with onions (both in surplus at our house) and otherwise followed your recipe to the letter. Superb!

I HATE lumpy mashed potatoes and used to spend forever mashing and mashing and mashing to get them smooth. A few years ago I bought a ricer which makes smooth mash easy. A bit of a pain to clean, but well worth it (IMO).

Great idea for a Meatless Monday. Since the baked beans in the US are pretty sweet, I might go with a white northern with some herbs added.

Oh my goodness it's a very long while since I tasted one of these. My mum used to make it as a very welcome, but definitely a desperation dinner, when there was too much week and not enough money. We kids loved it and always devoured it after coming in from school half starved and cold in the winters of the 1950s. You've elevated it a bit with the panko breadcrumbs and I think if I revisit this (and I think I will), I'll stick with just the grated cheddar on top, (and lots of it), grilled to bubbly perfection. Thanks for the memory and the reminder of how the simplest dishes can be the most delicious.

Good evening Cheryl, your new chopping board is lovely 👌😍, hope you’re really pleased with it!🥰 Thanks as always for sharing this recipie, for a warming, comforting cheese & potato pie, will try this with your corned beef suggestion as not overly keen on the mashed tattie & baked beans combination. Very few things I don’t enjoy eating, (as you’ve probably gathered by now 😁), but for whatever reason, I just don’t enjoy it!🥴 Hope you enjoy what’s left of the week, & hello February, a teeny wee step closer to springtime 🙌😎! xx 👩🏻🍳🥔🧀😋💕💞🩷
