Thomas Keller is the only American chef o have simultaneous three star Michelin ratings for two different restaurants, Per Se and The French Laundry. The carrot that he is preparing with Jimmy is merely the garnish for the larger dish that is brought out at 7:25, which was the dish that helped The United States win the Bocuse d'Or. To those whom are crapping on his hat, that is a mark of authority and knowledge. I would never compare Gordon Ramsay and Thomas Keller. As much as I love Gordon, in reality only one of them is still actually cooking and not just on tv....

"To those whom are crapping on his hat, that is a mark of authority and knowledge." It's also just a paper hat. I wore one when I was a cook at some golf course one summer. No big. And yeah, as to Ramsay: I'm not a huge fan of the guy either, but unlike you, I am able to disassociate from the affectation of his television persona.

@@tiacook2044 I would say that Thomas Keller and a chef named Grant Achatz are the two people that evolved American fine dining from T-Bone Steaks into a unique cuisine that emphasized mind-blowing quality and imagination. From the moment those two entered a kitchen, fine dining chefs in this country no longer focused on copying French or Steakhouse recipes. Instead, they decided to venture into a new era of New-American cuisine in which the American spirit of individualism, diversity, and creativity were the driving factors. Makes sense, as Thomas Keller was the mentor of Grant Achatz (who also has a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in Chicago btw).

For friends here in the comment section that don't understand who this guy is, French people will tell you the best french restaurant in the world is not in France! The best french restaurant in the world is not even owned by a french chef! The best french restaurant is in Napa Valley owned y the American chef Thomas Keller! So please give some respect and Thomas Keller does not wear that hat when cooking, It's what chefs wear when competing at the Bocus d'or which is like the cooking super bowl!

Getting a one on one lesson from Thomas Keller would be an experience of a lifetime for me. I understand as a host, Jimmy has to engage with the audience, but if I had to teach someone while they were being sidetracked like that, I couldn't handle it, lol. They pay hundreds for the full tasting menu of canapés and appetizers and multiple main courses and pre-desserts and a flurry of main desserts and petit fours. At the end, they will pay hundreds for so much food that they may not even be able to finish the tasting menu. Whether or not that menu happens to include the carrot among everything else is up for debate.
