Another fantastic show. I love all the regular guests. But It's fun and educational to have the guests switched up this month. Thanks for another helpful and delightful show, Chef AJ (and the Starrs).

This does not tell us how to avoid strokes...which is what I need. I have eaten wfpb no oil no salt no sugar but I still struggled w hbp. Now I have intermittent atrial flutter and mgus which fosters clots. I don't need a lecture on self care, and I wouldn't think of eating something unhealthy. Mindful awareness is already well entrenched. These guys mean well but I think most of Chef's listeners are way past this. How do I heal my heart and avoid strokes?

Many (maybe even most) but not all cardiovascular issues are caused by lifestyle. For example, irregular heart beats are an electrical problem not a lifestyle problem. You would need to be evaluated by a cardiologist (I'm not sure which subspecialties of cardiology) for something like that. High blood pressure can be caused by lots of different contri uting factors.Maybe a lifestyle medicine doc could help supplement the info you get from other docs. I don't recall all 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine, but basically, I addition to your diet, they can help you evaluate (and if needed improve) sleep, community, activity, mental health ect. All of that addes up to effect our overall well being. And having an objective and educated person who can understand your health conditions (ie a lifestyle medicine doctor) may help identify some areas for improvement that we may not notice on our own.

As a neurologist, it doesn’t take much to recover from a mini stroke, FYI. I don’t even like the term mini stroke. It just means reversible stroke so someone who states that they’re diet has recovered from mini stroke is really exuberant. I’m all for whole food, plant-based diets, and everything about it. However, It’s erroneous representation of what whole food plant-based food would do. I’m stating this as an educational point rather than a criticism.

What about a blood clot....dvt/pe. I heard it comes from fatty foods. Appreiciate any advice?

@@marjn1030 I haven’t heard that, but I don’t doubt it. I’m such a soldier of whole food plant-based diets that I can probably blame anything on unhealthy, highly inflammatory, saturated fats. DVT is such a myriad of etiologies. First and foremost, what is the exercise or activity level of the individual? are there underlying cancers in the body? Autoimmune diseases? Recent surgeries? I can tell you that people who are generally healthy won’t develop this. Elderly individuals get this from prolonged immobility.

Also, not all strokes or TIA's are caused by the same thing. 20-40% are of unknown origin and a large number are caused by A-Fib which doesn't have a dietary origin. There has to be some clarification whenever presenting stroke and dietary issues. I have had 3 strokes and have been on a whole food plant based diet for 7 years mainly to support my otherwise excellent general health.

@@Spicydoc1 I don't understand why I got it. I had a job in pharmacy retail and I hardly ever sat down. I stood up most of my shift and eventually i quit then a couple of months later I was hired but couldn't not start because of the dvt. I thank God for being with me this far. It's sad most doctors chase symptoms and don't find out the root causes of illnesses. Thanks for your help!

@@marjn1030 you may be highly inflamed? Are you diabetic? Age is another factor. Genetics? Anyone in the family with similar issues or blood clots and any other part of the body at a young age?
