@@ChefAnge … I shared it out to my best friends…3 out of 5 fixed it for supper and the other two are buying Brussel sprouts when they go to the store…the husband of one refused to even try them until tonight…we have a convert…he wants them again tomorrow! Have you ever had goobers and peas…shelled crowder peas and shelled raw peanuts…my granny use to fix these and they were amazing…she boiled them together in a big pot with salt and I bet a piece of fat back for seasoning…would love your take on it…😇

Loved the video. Your version would be great as the side to some pork chops or steaks. Also good for a topping to a bowl of rice. Leave out the bacon for Vegetarians. Loved the backwards hat look. Makes it feel like you are a friend cooking in my kitchen. I am guessing that from the being raised from folks of the depression, ours only had under 5 items.....corn, beans, another veg, butter and salt. Your version is fit for a King!

NJ has many farmers markets where I’ve found a lot of fresh Okra, cause my husband ❤’s it. I’ve found it in both Central Jersey and North Jersey, but mainly in Hillsborough farmers Market, Doris Dukes farmers market, and another in Parsippany. But you’re right, it’s not in Shop Rite, however I’ve also found it in Indian markets such as Patadar’s, and Chinese specialty markets. It’s so much better than the frozen.

In my family, succotash was a Narragansett Indian word meaning the crushed corn or split corn, and some other vegetables like beans. We mostly used corn, lima beans, and what else was on hand. A bit of butter and salt. With family from the Dakotas, living near reservations, we never knew it was a southern dish. Only a Native dish.

I add large dice roasted potatoes to this and fry some sliced smoked sausage until beginning to brown. I roast the okra vegetable and sausage medley in the oven after beginning the saute on the stove top....at the end I add the separately roasted potato chunks. It's a delicious way to use my garden produce.

That rarely works as it’s intended unless every tomato is the same exact size. I prefer to take my time with some things.

Being a northerner, I add small cubes of spam to this recipe. Oh yah, I still use the bacon. Everything goes with bacon. My wife does not like Lima beans, so those are not part of my recipe. Goes well with scrambled eggs.

Succotash is a dish from indigenous people up North so I have no idea why a Southerner would keep it a secret.
@ChefAnge
@ChefAnge 3 ай бұрын
Although it’s originally a dish from the northeast, it’s far more popular and common in the South in the present. Southerners love it and all know what it is. In the northeast where I live, you never see it and no one knows what it is.
