I made this pie today and stuck with the recipe exactly. It was the best pie I have ever eaten. The addition of the bacon fat with butter makes an amazing tasty crust. I will be distributing pieces to friends tomorrow so I don’t eat it all and gain too much weight! One thing I should have done was to put a piece aluminum foil on the bottom of my oven in case of a leak. Yup, it leaked. I’ll be doing some oven cleaning in the morning.

Mine too! It oozed out some goodness but I was prepared and had a tray underneath the pie and I put foil around the crust to prevent burning it. Success

Making this pie now with high hopes! I know this is over a year ago; but just wanted to point out to those who may scroll the comments & watch along as they make-- and may not catch it--as I nearly almost didnt, even though I'd written the recipe down from online before finding it here on youtube--that the video text denotes 1/4c bacon fat, where as the recipe denotes 1/2c! I was trying to trouble shoot why my "meal" just didnt seem right, as I followed along as I was going and that was it 🤦 everything tastes great so far though! Thanks for the recipe & video!

I have just a couple questions chef. 👍 My grandmother always told me to put sugar on the top of it after it has cooked. Is that OK? Also I'm using granulated sugar and not Turbanato?🥴 I have a problem with my apples not being cooked all the way through. Is it OK to precook the filling in the microwave before it goes in the pie crust? 🤷♀️🤦♀️Please let me know because I want my Apple pie to be an amazing compliment to my Thanksgiving supper.👍👍
@ChefBillyParisi5 жыл бұрын
Yes it's ok to put granulated sugar on top. You can precook the filling a little bit in a pt over low heat for 100-15 minutes, no problem

Ok here's the thing, I have only made pie crust once, and with my Mom on the phone instructing me it turned out great. Now she's gone and I am attempting to remember how to do it. Well I decided to try your way and I over worked it in the processor, also I followed the recipe for 1/2 cup bacon fat instead of 1/4 and that may have been the problem too. so I decided to try another recipe that looked close to mom's, and it worked, I successfully made two pies, one apple and one pecan without the corn syrup. They turned out stunning. Now the other pie crust is in the fridge wrapped in plastic wrap. I am wondering if there is a way to save it. I am thinking of adding more flour, but I really have no idea. What do you think? It is rather moist and tacky.

the thought of bacon fat makes me want to vomit. u can use the same amount of shortening?
@mich82615 жыл бұрын
If you wanted to make this vegetarian (not vegan) would you replace the bacon fat with salt butter or something else?
@ChefBillyParisi5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I would simply use more butter
@sh1tmonkey5 жыл бұрын
@@ChefBillyParisi How much extra butter would you use instead?

@@ChefBillyParisi Following up, I always make turkey bacon, so I'm unfamiliar with pork bacon. How much would I have to cook to render 1/4 cup that is needed? Just 1 pack or would it take multiple? Also - how long does it keep (in the fridge)?
@ChefBillyParisi5 жыл бұрын
@@sh1tmonkey replace the amount of bacon fat. I think it was what a 1/4 cup?
@ChefBillyParisi5 жыл бұрын
@@sh1tmonkey well it would take a pack or so, the goal of this recipe is to get you to start keeping it so you can make things like this. No need to cook off a bunch of bacon for this recipe.
