I wholly respect people's opinions on the new album and Chelsea Grin as a band in General. But as a fan who has watched this band grow, listening all the way from the Self-Titled EP up to the current release "Self Inflicted", this band has grown massively. Yes I adore the harrowing sadistic feeling that comes from songs like "Disgrace", "Recreant", "Crewcabanger", but over time, they have really amounted to something incredible. They have remained a solid band in my eyes. Yes lyrically the new Album isn't as up to par, but it's relate-able and you can pick up the lyrics easily, making it memorable and emotionally impacting as they discuss topics people can empathise with. Grin don't hold back, songs such as "Love Song", "Broken Bonds", "Scratching & Screaming" and lastly "Strung Out". They sustain the brutality, it's just a change in tone, it's more Progressive and that came after the Evolve EP (arguably my favourite CG release) when Jason was in the band for a few years. He helped shape Grin into something unique now. I don't see any Deathcore band like Grin at the moment.
