Thanks Chelsie! I was determined not to do wheelies at first. But when the wheelie bars wore out and I took them off, the wheelies came naturally. Jumping curbs - going up - takes some practice! And speed. What you do is get back about 8 feet and take a hard run at the curb. At the last second, pop your front casters over the curb and let your weight carry you up and over. The back wheels will mount the curb pretty good. Be ready the grab the hand rims and give it a final push if your speed was not quite enough. Natural fit hand rims help immensely. Everyone else around you gets excited or worried but there is nothing to it. Just make sure you get the casters up high enough. Too high is not generally a problem as you will be hitting the curb and driving the casters back down shortly anyway. Give it a try! Remember, speed is your friend!

I got my chair about a year ago and took it out for the first time two days ago, I'm going to ask for the natural fit handrims when the technician comes out in a few weeks

To go up a curb; you need to be rolling towards the curb (faster the better) and pop a wheelie at the last moment to lift the front wheels onto the curb. Then in the same motion move your weight forward and try to put weight down towards your feet, so it bounces your back wheels up over the curb. Like I said the faster you do it the easier it is, but you have to get your timing right. Practice on a low level curb and work up to deeper curbs...... Next you need to learn how to get down a flight of stairs in your chair and then the hardest of all is getting up a flight of stairs in your chair (I can’t do it anymore, to old & fat...lol) but I can still do down a flight of stairs (I learnt both back in the mid 1980’s).....

Francine Rowland ... Don’t know why you’re in a chair, but having a baby is wonderful and doing if from a chair... just as wonderful! My baby is now 19 years old and as a T7 para, it’s been the greatest experience ever!! Most obstacles can be overcome!! Best wishes... and learn those wheelies!!

Awesome. I'm still not great at jumping steeper curbs. Proper chair fit definitely helps, for sure. Suggestion for a future how-to video: going up and down an escalator in a chair. Going up is okay (kind of 😝), but going down without a spotter still terrifies me.

I remember in my powerchair, a while back, going SLOWLY up a kerb. Big mistake. The anti tip wheels caught on the side of the kerb. The rear wheels were up in the air and had no contact with the ground. There i was, at a curious angle, going HELP ME. When i got my chair serviced, i was told that if i need to go up kerbs, i had to go quickly.

This is amazing! Thank you so much for this video- I've been feeling quite lost on how to do things with my fairly new wheels. I have a question though- when you're spinning with your wheelchair, is it important to have a light chair? I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user and mine is around 13kg heavy- I guess yours might be lighter. Is it harder to do this with a heavier chair? Love your insta and youtube❤

I can jump curbs pretty easily its the going down that scares me so much I've bit the dust one to many times I will say after working with my PT I feel like I have skills down enough that if I was forced to drop down a curb I could do it with minimal pain or danger.

Hi Chelsea. Quick question for you? Are you still using the smart drive on your wheelchair? I'm thinking of getting one. Para T5/6 Comp. I've been injured going on 31 year's. Wish they had these types of videos back in those days. I never learned how to do a wheelie. ADA was just being born then. I also had to ware a upper body brace for a year after being discharged. Thank you for your videos. Even though I've been injured all these year's. I've learned a lot by your KZbin channel! Keep up the good work. Take care. Tony

Thank you Chelsie. Been wanting to try doing this in my chair for awhile, but as you probably know they don't usually set you up with your first chair that can do much; just so you can get used to using it. But now I am soooooo ready to try. Out of curiosity, is there a type of chair you think is better for wheelchair dancing over others?

Russell Lash ... yes... coming out of rehab, chairs are never set correctly! Crazy! But, learning a wheelie is about finding the balance point. Keep practicing!! I hope your next chair is better.

Hi! Love your attitude:) I am able bodied. But I do have some severe arthritis that is begining to show in my feet and ankles. I can't really be on my feet for long periods of time anymore, like if I were to go to a zoo, mall, ect for a day. I am looking to save for a wheelchair such as yours so that I can have more freedom in mobility. Is there any good resources that you would recommend for research? I am not looking to spend for completely custom, as I will not be a full time user

Yes, hopping up a curb is very intimidating at first! What you have to do is take a running start, pop a wheelie at the last second and commit 100% to the push (soild hard push) the second your castors land on top of the curb well maining your crunch. Definitely with someone behind you while you are learning!!!
