I'm wondering if it's ultimately helpful or unhelpful to use the old classification system instead of just starting with cladistics... obviously skipping steps to make it all the way to humans. I was having a conversation just this morning trying to explain that birds are reptiles and that "fish" isn't a particularly useful concept biologically.

My old Biochemistry professor, Dr. Cole at the University of Idaho told us that hydrophobic is a misnomer. Water is a bigot. Oil wants to spread out and relax. Water is uptight and doesn’t like anything that has a neutral charge like oil. Thought you might find that funny or useful for future videos in the series

So qualifications from their are less valuable and worth less than those from other places. I really don't get how things work where every state has completely different standards of education. How can you judge someone's skills and knowledge when a B in one state means something completely different in another state cause that state uses prager u or doesn't teach evolution?

Also if god doesn't need a cause than why not just simplify it to matter/energy and time/space doesn't need a cause? I also don't get how a more complex thing that doesn't have a cause is needed for something simpler that doesn't have a cause. If we just start at the universe then it's simpler and therefore more likely.

@@charlestownsend9280 Every state needs to be held to a minimum (and high) standard for public education. With well-paid and well-trained teachers, an entirely secular (mandatory side) education (religious electives are fine so long as all religions are properly represented, not just a Christian Class or something) based on the best facts and science available to the world. A state can go above and beyond if they want... but there needs to be a high quality minimum that a state cannot fall below without serious repercussions. The US really needs to stop falling further and further behind the rest of the developed world in public education or it will go very, very badly for us.

I just wanted you to know that your yarn metaphor has an extra layer of appropriateness. How a project turns out is more than just the pattern/recipe of stitches used. It also depends on the twist of the yarn itself. Which direction it's spun, if it's a balanced twist, or if it's been overtwisted, affects the final garment. Especially in the case of overtwisting, which will cause the piece to bias (you knit a square but it contorts into a parallelogram). But if you know it's been overtwisted you can make changes to the yarn itself to balance it back out, change the pattern to a more balanced one, or use it to your advantage to create intentionally biased pieces.

He ended up "subconsciously" picking up clues that helped him solve a problem that was happening on the Enterprise at the time. One of the dreams involved a cake (in the shape of Deanna Troi, btw). When Data asks what kind of cake it is, he's told that it's a "neural peptide" cake. Worf is sitting nearby, enjoying a piece of cake, and he helpfully adds "with mint frosting!" Organic chemistry can be some of the most interesting chemistry cause it deals with how our bodies interact with chemicals but unfortunately the organic chemistry classes i took was all about teaching memorization rather than really learning the subject matter.
