Chemistry experiment 56 - Instant fire: Potassium permanganate and glycerin

This experiment demonstrates the oxidation of glycerin by potassium permanganate.
A few drops of glycerin are placed into a hollow in a pile of finely crushed potassium permanganate crystals. An exothermic redox reaction occurs, with the glycerin boiling and producing a purple flame that spreads around the pile of potassium permanganate.
