Chennaiயின் முதல் நீறுக்கடியில் underwater metro Adayar CMRL Purple Line Greenways Adayar junction

CMRL recently made a historic breakthrough in underground metro rail construction by drilling under the riverbed of Adyar
this breakthrough is part of corridor 3 that runs from madhavaram in the north to sipcot in the south and has to cut through adyar river
both stations adjoining the river greenways in the north and adyar juction in the south have been planned as underground
this means that not one but two tunnel boring machines Kaveri and Adyar will have to drill under the river to create two railtracks north to south
now I'll quickly show you the stretch.in reality. this is the total distance of 1.2 km needed to be covered to build a tunnel between Greenways Road and Adyar Junction, which includes a 400-mtrs. stretch underneath the Adyar and Thiru. Vi. Ka. Bridge

the riverbed varies in depth between 3 and 5ms below ground, so i'm showing you the deepest part
at two ends would be constructed the greenways station and the adyar station

The purple track will be placed approximately 18 metres below the surface
In February 2023, ‘Kaveri’ TBM was launched at Greenways Road Metro and started tunnelling towards Adyar Junction
by now, ‘Kaveri’ has tunnelled a distance of 583 mtrs. and has reached the Adyar riverbed
It is expected that ‘Kaveri’ will finish tunnelling in three months.
The other TBM ‘Adyar’ has covered 250 mtrs so far

Some times this cmrl news we can see in the print media. Foe example from Foreshore estate to porur metro UG track coming from Panagal park to Meenakastchi college are suppose to have two stations at panagal park & at Meenakschi college, but the distance seems to less than what actually requirement, so they shifted Meenakshi metro station to old pesum padam near Dr. Ambathkar statue. Being all the only under proposal maps, no print information will be available.

The Airport-Washermanpet line of Chennai Metro rail already passes under the cooum river. And a recently opened line of Kolkata metro passes under the Hoogly river. Don't give wrong information.

Why is Indian govt celebrating Kolkata as the first underwater metro in 2024? because the Coovum tunnel is not regarded as underwater. That way, every city has some canal or stream over their metro line. Adyar river and Chetpet lake are considered real water bodies hence they will be Chennai’s first underwater metro tunnels as reported by Times of India and others too.

MK Stalin wants to develop only chennai thats why he alloacated 66000 cr fro state govt fund fot Chennai Metro.Chennai laready has suburban lines upto 80kms cv=voerage around,1 MRTS,2 Metro line.COimbatore and Maduari face severe congestion. Now,German bank has rejected to fund CBE and MDU metro.Stalin should stop 2 metro lines in Chennai and trafer the funsd for iplemneting each one line for Coimbatore and Maduarai

@@skumaran7192 Actually the CMRL phase 1 has tunnel under Coovum river between Government Estate and Central stations as well as under Buckingham canal near Central station. They predated Kolkatta under Hoogly metro tunnel by 6-7 years. But the tunnel distance in Kolatta is a mighty 520 meters long whereas the under Coovum river and Buckingham canal ones are very much shorter and so not considered as a big achievement. The tunnel under Adyar river for CMRL -phase 2 corridor 3 is to be 400 metres.
