This was in the early 1970's....I will never forget the Sonny and Cher Show...every week there was a segment in the show where she would sing an old torch song, looking and sounding like a million bucks. There is only one Cher. Priceless.

Lets not forget she sang all these songs live when they taped the segments.

She can be SO elegant when she wants to be - love the 30's and 40's influences here.

@SS421982 - It's still in Cher's list of goals to one day do a show at Carnegie Hall, performing numbers like this. I think her fans would eat it up. A night of her in one or two great gowns, just being a singer...

Great Jazz-chanteuse Mrs. Billie Holiday succeeded with this fine song [in "An Evening With Billie Holiday" (1953)] which was written by Richard A. Whiting & Neil Moret in 1937. And, dig it, Cher shows the world with this, and the following song to be a great SWING-performer, too! Unfortunately she didn't do very often. Her marvellous alto-voice fits perfectly to a lot of swing-titles like "Funny Valentine" and all the others. Put some saxes and trumpets and rhythms in the background, lean 'em some tuxedos, put it in a bar- or a 30s dance-room, and you will have created a billion-seller. "That's jazz..." Bing Crosby said. I'm not much to look at Nothing to see Just glad I'm living And lucky to be I've got a man crazy for me He's funny that way I can't save a dollar Ain't worth a cent He doesn't hollar He'd live in a tent I've got that man crazy for me He's funny that way Though he loves to work And slave for me everyday He'd be so much better off If I went away But why should I leave him Why should I go He'd be unhappy without me I know I've got that man mad about me He's funny that way Never had nothing No one to care That's why I seem to have More than my share I've got a man crazy for me He's funny that way When I hurt his feelings Once in a while His only answer is one little smile I've got a man crazy for me He's funny that way I can see no other way And no better plan End it all and let him go To some better gal But I'm only human A coward at best I'm more than certain He'd follow me West I've got a man crazy for me He's funny that way

YEA, the styles and coiffured look really compliment her beauty. Like they say, the clothes don't wear HER. SHE WEARS THEM :D

Yes and Sonny should had been credited for this segment where she (Cher) sang ballads a la Judith Garland style despite she refusing to do it....she just wanted to do more rock and roll..

Cher has said that she LOVED doing these old torch songs, at least at that time. I don't think she refused at all, she wanted to do them.

Didn't she wear this dress when she guest starred on Carol Burnette's show????
@jimbecarroll57806 жыл бұрын
it was a scaled down version of it. the shell is a satin spaghetti strap gown. You might've seen her wearing it w/ a long silver-white boa

Didn't she where that dress on The Carol Burnett Show?
