I was 11 years old in 83 and both Cyndi AND Madonna were THE BOMB. I have multiple albums by both and have seen both in concert and not once did I ever feel the need to peg them against each other. They both represent powerful women and I have ultimate respect for both. Like Cyndi said, there's room for everyone in this big world.

Margaret Reefer Cyndi has a unique voice for sure but I base my opinion on her vocal range, her power to project and the control she has over her voice. To me it’s obvious she’s a great singer. Songs like True Colors, My First Night Without You, I Drove All Night etc really showcase her vocal prowess, more so than She Bop for sure! Anyway I wasn’t criticising anyone, like I said I admire both Cyndi and Madonna, I just think Cyndi is a more proficient vocalist, and ultimately a more modest and nicer person.

Margaret Reefer for what it’s worth I’ve never had a problem understanding Cyndi’s lyrics, unless English is your second language I find it astonishing that anyone would struggle with it!! Her voice is undeniably unique but in no way incomprehensible, at least to my ear :)

It was great to see both Cyndi Lauper and Madonna on VMA night. There are both queens of 80s pop. I remember Madonna talking highly about Cyndi Lauper's music. I decided to listen some of her albums. Cyndi Lauper's catalouge of music is really good. Both ladies are great!

Cyndi was/is a class act. So polite, so compassionate, yet there is a power that can be felt emanating from her. Not many can pull off tough and compassionate at the same time. I think she rocks this combination with authority so well because she can, because her courage is so strong. She stays on the correct side of a debate, and has a heart that is in the correct place to do so. I have always lover her and her music and now at 46 years old I realize even more how great she is.

Entertainment media loves to pit women together and promoting a rivalry/feud between them that most times never existed. It's sad that Cyndi had to defend Madonna so many times over the years. But it's great that she did so, and she did so quite eloquently. It's rather awesome that they seem to share a mutual respect for each other. I would have loved to see a collaboration between her and Madonna. I know that Cyndi was friends with Prince (she did a cover of one of his songs for She's so Unusual). I would have loved it if they would have collaborated in the studio. I have heard that he would go to her shows, I also heard he would go up on stage, but not sure if it was to perform with her or to show love/support. They both have such great voices that it would have been phenomenal to hear a duet or two with them. Madonna is great as well, and she knew what she wanted and had fun doing it. Same with Cyndi. Cyndi has such a beautiful outlook on life, it tends to be contagious.

I knew I loved Cyndi from the very first time seeing her 'girls' vid. I was 17, living in Bumfuk, Louisiana, and all of a sudden this channel (MTV) bought to my attention all these freaky, fun, weird( in my world) people. Cyndi, Madonna, The Go Go's, then there was the guys....Motley Crue, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Culture Club, etc.....WHAT A FUN TIME BACK IN THE DAY, and all of these acts, and their videos, kinda shaped who I became!
