This is the finale that haunts all of us back then, Highlighting Legasov addressed the gift of Chernobyl at the end: "where I once would fear the cost of truth, I only ask, what is the cost of lies?"

I also love how they make sure that the audience knows that there were 100s of other scientists that worked at Chernobyl to fix the problem, but they had to be condensed down into just a couple characters.

Boris ,from not having absolutely no idea how nuclear reactors work to confidentially explaining the working of an entire model of a nuclear power plant is Epic...and him & Valary getting one last chance to sit down and be honest with each other. So wonderful.

Welcome to the final episode...well done getting through this show...it is a tough one. I really like the way the makers of the show added the notes at the end to cover some of the things they got wrong, simplified, or made more dramatic...I just wish they had done more of that, or been more honest. For example, they say that "it has been reported" that everyone on the "Bridge of Death" died...but those reports are very much NOT true....so technically, they are being truthful, but not quite. Other things they do not admit to, I can understand...such as the fact that Legasov was not even at the trial of Dyatlov and company...but it is kind of necessary to turn him into a kind of hero figure and have him do much more than he really did so that the story can be simplified enough for most folks to keep track of.

Its not the tragedy that happened its how the people in charge reacted that is the most tragic of all. I love your reaction

This is the only reactor that said "good" during the part about Dyatlov's death. He's still a human like the rest of us, although I don't blame you because the show unnecessarily villified him, he was nothing like this in real life.

Dyatlov's toxic attitude to command was a recipe for disaster that applies across multiple fields. Until the early 1970s, airliner captains, often ex-military WWII veterans, had much the same attitude, demanding that the rest of the crew obey them without question and terrorizing them if they didn't. It took a series of crashes in which junior crew members either failed to report problems out of fear or did so and were shouted down by the captain before crew training changed fundamentally. Nowadays it's very much a team effort and nobody is punished or intimidated for raising a concern.

Even though it's very sad, this conclusion is so satisfying after the escalating horror and despair of the first four episodes. Hope you find something uplifting and joyful to react to now. 🖖 Being new to your channel, I think I'll go back in time a few years and watch your reaction to Stranger Things. That's more fun. And if you want to watch something funny, you should find the 2000-2004 series Black Books (only 3x6 episodes). One of the funniest things British TV has produced. Not sure it will be a success as a reaction, but others have done it. Whatever you do next, I'll be there.

If you want a break from depressing shows, I’d recommend What we do in the shadows. A comedy mockumentary with vampires that never fails to make me laugh. And it’s final season should drop this year.

The title of the episode means "eternal memory". This is the equivalent of the English "rest in peace". Ukraine is one of the most religious countries in Europe. Therefore, even people who are not too religious say these words when commemorating the dead (on the day of birth or death, for example). Moreover, there is a memorial day in the calendar. The next Sunday after Easter. On this day, people visit the graves of deceased relatives and friends en masse. And coincidentally, this day usually falls in late April - early May. Just when Chernobyl happened.

Like Band of Brothers I think this is an important, if difficult, watch. I'm sure you can now see why Craig Mazin was given free reign to choose Last of Us as his next project after this. As for recommendations, my two choices above all others are always The Good Place and Orphan Black (which stars Tatiana Maslany from She Hulk doing the best performance I've ever seen).

Not sure if you like sci-fi at all but The Expanse is one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Imagine if the Cold War was between Earth and Mars. It’s actually more of a political drama than hard sci-fi, and grounded in some of the best depictions of what future space fare would look like.

Less fun fact: Russian soldiers invading Ukraine were tasked with taking the facility, but weren't told about the radiation. They dug defensive trenches into the radioactive soil and all started getting radiation poisoning.

I'm an engineer but anyone can notice this. The beginning of the episode Bryukhanov asked if there's no danger in keeping the power low for that long. The simple answer would've been yes and the simple solution: bring the power back up to nominal levels, from 1800 MWh to 3200 and then we're fine to carry on the test after midnight, then Chernobyl would've never had happened. Or it would've happened at a later time or another reactor.
