Max has been doing this alot lately. When I was gone one a trip, he found his voice. So proud of my little boy. It was always Leo who asked and now Max is growing up. So cute!!

First 21 years of my life were filled with chow chows and chow mixes. We lived in a rougher neighborhood and I never worried. My pups kept me safe. I would live another, but my kids wouldnt do well with the breed. We have Cattle dogs for my rambunctious kids instead.
@cherriematerАй бұрын
@nikikelly2003 Leo was quite rambunctious at times. He had a hedgehog stuffed toy that he would "fetch." But not our, Max. Nope ... he was our observer. I would sit in that spot behind him in the thumbnail (against the cupboard door), he would sit in my lap while Leo ran up and down the hallway fetching the hedgehog. Those were such good times. Thanks for helping me remember that one.
@nikikelly2003Ай бұрын
@cherriemater my first chow (my dad's) was great with kids and let me crawl all over him. The chow I remember the most was Sandy, a chow shepherd mix. We got her 10 days after my 7th birthday, and she lived until 3 months after my 21st. She always slept under my window and was just the best. She was a good mom to her pups. I still miss her, and she has been gone for 16 years.

EuRice Queen I know that non-responding feeling. My Yorkie does it to me still, and he's 10. I admit my family wasn't good with disciplining him, so I'd say just go all out with training, because if you give a terrier an inch, they'll run the house.

Is it hard to keep 2 males together? Do they have to be fixed? I plan on adopting a boy later this year. 🐻🐶
@cherriemater3 жыл бұрын
Two boys is VERY hard. And, Yes, get them neutered as soon as possible to help with aggression. If possible, it's better to have a male and female or two females. When those "teen" years (roughly age three) happen, that's when we had to separate them. Our Leo was the aggressor and Max would take it to a certain extent. BUT, when he would turn on Leo ... it was not pleasant. I failed them, in that I was unsure whether I would breed them. At age three, when the fights started, we got them both fixed. It may have been too late. The terrible fights did stop after neutering, but Leo had to be put down as he bit our four year old. I wouldn't wish THAT on anyone. Max will be 12 his year and we WILL be getting two chows again, but we will do things much more differently than before.
@penelopevega34043 жыл бұрын
@@cherriemater I'm so sorry to hear that 💔💔💔 i can only imagine your pain having to be met with that decision. Were your boys littermates? I have been doing some reading about adopting littermates and how sometimes they can fight really bad when they get older. It's something I have been taking into consideration as well because I don't have any children yet but who knows what the future holds. But I definitely want to adopt a chow chow soon. Do you think if a chow is socialized with young children and babies as a puppy they will be less likely to bite children when they are older? Maybe a female would be a better start? I had a male chow Labrador mix. He was the best dog in the world. he did however have some really bad dog aggression issues. He had to be separated from other dogs at all times unless they were the two females that he grew up with.
@cherriemater3 жыл бұрын
@@penelopevega3404 After the suffering with the boys it was recommended next time male/female or female/female but not male/male again. Usually, males will allow themselves to be dominated by a female (accept her nips of disapproval) much better than another male. Fixing both males and females asap will also reduce the aggression. Regardless of which gender ... socialize them with all age types as soon as you are allowed to put the on the ground ( i forget what the waiting period is after depo/parvo shot). Find a dog park and teach them (and other owners) how to greet one another. Find a park or county fair where they can be (carefully) petted and loved by all they see. Touch them all over when you have the a,one, especially eyes, mouth and feet (between toes). This will help the when they go to see the Vet.

+sectumsempra 7 I belong to a board called chowchow.org ... ask your question there as I am sure there must be folks who have found Chow Chows in Spain (and since you're in Europe, there may be a good breeder nearby who will ship or will meet you half way). Always check with your local dog rescue society and then ask around for a reputable breeder. But I am sure someone on chowchow.org may have some help for you there. Best of luck with your search. I wouldn't want any other breed now that I've had three in my lifetime. And, when the time comes, I'm sure we'll get another Chow Chow.

Do it! Leo and Max were 16 months when we had it done because the fighting became terrible and we had an infant in the house. They were all cute and cuddly until they hit their puberty and the testosterone began to fly. Leo was always in instigator and during puberty, Max decided not to take it anymore. We were blessed with help to have the procedure done on both but I wish I had done it sooner, before the aggression had set some patterns. Their aggression diminished amazingly following the surgeries but will flare to what we call "arguments."

cherriemater tysm! Also is there some good tips for training because I heard they are super stubborn to train and I also heard they only listen and obey one person because they choose to be loyal to one person is that true to whomever trains because I’m the one that will be doing the training
@cherriemater5 жыл бұрын
@@Notodrake They are, but persistence and understanding of Chow Chow personality go a LONG way. You cannot train them in the same manner as a Retriever or Labrador because other breeds want to please YOU, whereas chow chows only do what pleases them. It is all worth it in the end because of the chow chows superior loyalty. It's like nothing I can describe and I have had a mix of breeds and mutts in the past.
