All he had to do was say , “my bad” - CBC HNIC and Roger’s Sportsnet would have accepted the apology - allow it to blow over. How did he harm or threaten other people's lives by what he said? Did he drop a bomb on somebody's house? Call a drone strike? Poison the water? Mandate people take a drug? I love Don, always have, always will but so many people conveniently leave out the part of the quote that made that time different than all the other years he told people the importance of wearing a poppy. It would've been nothing if he said "you people that don't wear a poppy..." but he clearly held immigrants to a different standard with what came after. It's a sentiment shared by many though so of course people will just disregard that part of the quote. A lot of people will go off on the immigrants that come here and don't give a damn about wearing a poppy but don't say anything about the people with roots here and even have Canadian war heroes in they're family tree. It's just weird. I liked it more when Don just called them all out.

If you leave all the divisive politics and poison CBC (and MacLean) out of it, Grapes commentary and predictions (regarding hockey) have always been pretty spot on. Has there been any other analysts on CBC long term that has coached an NHL team in the stanley cup finals? He offers a unique view compared to the trend following analysts. I'm sure Sportsnets ratings suck compared to Coaches corner, I know this is 100% true without even looking it up. As Leaf fan in the early 90s, they were a gritty team that somehow found way to win games in those years even though they never got to the finals. We saw a bit of that in the Tampa series, but that fire was completely absent in the Florida match up. Yes, there were some bad calls or no call, but no team is going to go far when their top guys simply stop producing.
