First and foremost I just wanted to say that I will pray for your wife to have a full and speedy recovery 🙏 Secondly I have learnt so much about electric vehicles since I subscribed to your Chanel. You helped me decide which EV to buy in Australia. I am actually going to pick up my new BYD Atto 3 today, as I ordered it a couple of months ago I'm very excited to say the least. To be totally honest from the brief video of the new Cherry Omodo 5 I think it looks quite nice both externally and the interior, interior but the fact is that I can't wait for delivery between 6-12 months, and the boot size is a killer for me. Thank you for all the info you bring to the layman's like me. God bless you and your family 😊

"Let me know your thoughts..." said the Viking. O.K. I will. First, I live in Mexico, Ensenada, Baja California to be specific. We have a brand new Chery (Chiery here in Mexico) dealership downtown. They have a "ton" of ICE Omoda 5's waiting to be delivered on their lot along with their other models. I've seen a few Omoda 5's riding around the city, and last week I saw one on our highway going towards Tijuana and San Diego. My first thought from behind was, "WOW" it's a really cool looking vehicle. It looks much better in person than via video and photos. My second thought is this. I have a sneaky feeling that they designed this car to be EV first and ICE second. It's going to take probably 5 years for EV's to catch on here where I live, and I suspect this is a way for them to entice our local market for the transition to EV's. Since our economy is tied quite closely with California (USA) and they have a new mandate of only EV's being sold by 2035 and our state government supports that, I have a feeling we'll be way ahead of the game nationally besides CDMX (Mexico City where they really need EV's) in the adoption of EV's. Sorry for the long response but the video and comments triggered my thoughts....

I did drive for the first time through a Chinese city full of EV micro cars. This will be the future for all big cities in the world.

Chery has been in Brasil for a while now, and they have climbed recently to #9 overall. They are going to be a major Brasilian brand given their effort. Brasil is not an easy market; you have to make your vehicle in a Mercosul country (Argentina, Brasil, Mexico, etc.) else you have a 100% import duty which needless to say ruins your sales.

When they reach markets outside China then we will see how much they are selling for. So far Chinese models are not that cheap outside China.
@toe2571
@toe2571 Жыл бұрын
They're cheap in south east asia. Because distribution cost is cheap here. It is also cheap to fulfill warranty obligations i.e. cheaper manpower. Things are more expensive in western countries because everything is more expensive over there. Car distributors need to make money and need money to fulfill any arising obligations from selling those cars. Selling cars is not like selling electronics.

@@toe2571 but these costs are not like building the car 2 or 3 times (material and work, don't forget the materials), what they are asking for. They are taking way too much money for moving the car from right to left.

Malaysia version will be equipped with LFP battery ..definitely they will position it below atto 3... Another EV SUV coming is Neta X.. also will be launching in 2024... to me much better looking Neta X not sure what type of battery we will be getting, but look much better than Omado EV 5

I think it looks fine, personally. It doesn’t wow me, but it doesn’t make me turn up my nose, either. The inside looks very nice, though. I’ll look forward to TeslaBjorn getting his hands on one and putting it through its paces.

Front motor for the very same reason you stated, it’s not an EV chassis, it slots in instead of the ICE.

The boot would have larger capacity if they didnt feel like they had to smash the roof down in back. The whole front end is just funky and not appealing.

Looks like most EV crossovers or SUVs to me. It’s fine. I don’t see how it’s different or “looks bad”? The interior is great, and if it’s cheaper than others in the market, sounds good to me. Of course, it won’t be available in North America, so it doesn’t matter. None of the Chinese cars Sam mentions will be available here. So I don’t pay attention to all the Chinese models. Even if they would come here, there would be huge tariffs and they wouldn’t qualify for tax credits. If they ever come here, then I’ll look into them.

Yes, outside is ...not my style. But I can accept it for the right price... I like the interior more than the ATTO3 interior.

The petrol version costs $32k to $36k so the EV version will likely be over $40k, probably closer to $45k.

Can u explain why EV are supposedly so expensive to build and supposedly companies loosing money if they are so little parts compare to ICE or hybrids cars ? about front wheel drive /compare to back wheel - its much better for driving in cold icy roads than back wheel drive.. and makes more sense for low power cars
@mondotv4216
@mondotv4216 Жыл бұрын
I can - two main reasons. The battery is a more expensive component than anything in an ICE vehicle and 2. Economies of scale. They make millions of engines and the keep the profit on those engines cut to the bone. In fact the whole ICE auto industry at the budget end of the market is based on small margins and huge volumes. With EVs they haven't got the volume yet to be able to trim margins.

BEWARE Chery is advertising this EV everywhere and then say book a test drive: HOWEVER the page offers an Omoda5 test drive, BUT when you get there it is the PETROL version ! obviously very negotiable and they say that EVs are years away.

Not quite as sleek as some others but still looks better than many Honda and Toyota ICE cars and no where near as ugly as the YangWan U8

For me it's not a real stunner, but it looks very modern and futuristic, if you want a really five-bagger-coyote-ugly that would be the Nissan Puke (Juke) or the first Nissan Leaf or the first Toyota Prius. This is nowhere near as ugly, not just a real looker.

I don't completely agree with you. I like how it looks outside too. About the battery, in Nepal they are claiming it's BYD's blade. I think it's inside china only they have different batteries.

Wouldn’t touch a FWD EV. Looks quite like the ATTO3 if you squint your eyes. I’ll be wildly surprised if it’s any cheaper once it’s on the road in Australia. Personally, if I had $50K I’d buy the MG4. It will out-gun this and have no torque steer. Now if I had $64K I’d buy a Model 3 - the original and best performance EV.

My ugly arse might suit the styling....but I still don't like it. Tesla more aerodynamic looking. Our Volvo C40 is unbelievable! I cannot recommend it enough. I am still waiting for cybertruck, rivian or BYD ute.
