Being in my mid 60's and a retired audio engineer - nothing in the Audio World excites me very much - but this news does! I am guessing that with the knowledge and experience Rega have gained in creating their MC range they are now applying it to this new MM cartridge. I am hoping that - when I get to hear it - it will have some of the transparency and delicacy a MC cartridge will have!

i used an A and R P77 for many years on different decks until they discontinued, i went over to Audio Technica and am currently using the VM 95 shibata on my LP12. Apart from the brilliant sound the AT cartridges are extremely easy to fit and adjust as there are only 2 screws, no nuts, they screw directly into the body of the cartridge.

As much as I like the VM95 SH (and I actualy prefer it over the ML), I really miss the square front of the original AT95 series. Attaching a pencil lead for precise adjustment was much easier then. Won't go back to a design asking for nuts.

The ND3 isn’t the one shown at Bristol - that was the ND7 that is still to be released, looks similar but will be around £450 where the ND3 is same as the Elyse at around £175
@rhine85Ай бұрын
I was thinking the same. I saw the price and thought wow…and then realised it’s the 3 not 7. I enjoyed the 7 at Bristol, will look forward to seeing reviews when it’s released

The A&R P77 cartridge was indeed related to the Supex lineage. Here’s the scoop: Expert Stylus Company, which originally made stylus assemblies for A&R, can still supply brand-new original-spec replacement styli for the P771. These cartridges featured a superb British “profiled” stylus, similar to the top-performing P78, resulting in clear, smooth, and detailed sound2. So, while not directly a Supex cartridge, the P77 shared some lineage with that esteemed family! 🎶🎵

The Rega R100 was indeed a Supex moving magnet cartridge made to Rega’s specifications. Introduced in 1978, it was designed to work with the Rega Planar 3 turntable. Many Planar 2 buyers also chose it due to its excellent performance in the Rega R200 tonearm. The R100 had a warm, euphonic sound infused with Supex DNA. Although it had some flaws (like a plastic body and delicate stylus assembly), its musicality and unique charm set it apart. Interestingly, the Supex-branded version was both more expensive and sounded worse than the Rega-branded R1001. Rega aimed for dynamic realism and full-bodied smoothness typically found in more expensive moving coils2. So, yes, the Rega R100 was indeed a Supex cartridge, and it left a lasting impression in the world of vinyl enthusiasts!
@deepend9376Ай бұрын
Unfortunately you may have been misled as have many. The R100 used the same Excel body used by the A&R 77 series of cartridges (and Sumiko and many others). I have measured both electrically and physically both bodies and they are identical apart from a modified frame so the A&R stylus won’t fit without modification. PS Forgot to say the Supex SM100 was a lower inductance than the R100 /P77

Hi Phil, another great informative video, love rega gear . Regards mark

Love the way it looks like a moving coil, but at that price I'll stick with my Exact which cost me more. Unless, the ND8 is proved to be better... Maybe it will.

Phil is excited 😛

I have used the Rega cartridge rebuild service, and it's great value for money. It's a shame you can only exchange like-for-like, so you cannot upgrade (like Ortofon?), and Rega will not accept older models, like the green Bias.
@mrt187828 күн бұрын
Excited by this news. I'm a big fan of Rega, turntables, CD source and amplification (all except speakers). I have a P2 which was under consideration for upgrade but I think I will go ND3 and stick with it for a while as from what I've read, this could be a big leap forward. I think we know the ND3 will be far superior to the Elys2, question is how will it compare to the Exact for example....
@ryanmcdermott8142Ай бұрын
When are you going to do a review on the rega aya.
@user-xv4hh2ck9vАй бұрын
Yes supex were famous for cantilever rubber hardness after a few years of use.. As you say some did some did not.. Used many Supex based carts in early Linn Turntables...What is the voltage of the ND3 Phil ? Are any specs available yet?
@Dave-if5qjАй бұрын
This will be interesting As rega has not released a new mm in decades

Love the channel but if viewers are taking the time to comment it’s only courtesy to read them.

Problem is that he has stated that he doesn’t read them so writing a comment advising him he should read them is a little futile

We’ll see, he should reply now and again, he can ignore which ever ones he chooses to. I can understand his reasoning, if a comment is agreeing then there’s no point in replying and replying to folk who just want to have an argument well there’s better ways to spend time

@@RichardDevlin-er4ce I watch all of the videos visiting them several times and read most of the comments. There are a few hater’s who think that they know more than Phil and I have gotten into debates with them but the majority ask relevant questions so they are looking for help. I have bought several pieces of hifi and even pieces of music directly because of the videos and also because of other people’s opinions in the comments. They are a very good resource.

Original Elys was grey. Purple must have been Super Elys and then Blue Elys 2?

I thought it was going to be a step above the Exact. Turns out it's just a replacement for the Elys 2.

I've never been keen on Rega carts. A lot of cartridges and turntables collaborate or based on other brands: My Clearaudio cartridge is based on a Audio Technica, the Marantz TT15 table is a rebadged Clearaudio Emotion and so on and so forth.

Car manufacturers don't make their own tyres. P6 and less, Ortofon 2M.... for the price, nuff said
@JohnDoe-np3zkАй бұрын
Ack sorry but Im sticking with an exact2 on the p6 vs ortofon red?. Seriously?
@Baldieman1Ай бұрын
Bought a 2m Red for my p2,based on the reviews.Hated it! Found it very brash and superficially hyper detailed.Also,it seemed to REALLY exacerbate any surface noise too.Now use Audio Technica,much happier.
@hugoagogo956728 күн бұрын
@@JohnDoe-np3zk Never tried the red. Swapped the exact2 for the 2M black on a P6 and, for me the improvement was well worth price.
@hugoagogo956728 күн бұрын
Yeah, my mate has a P3 and loves the AT that he runs. I find the 2M black on the P6 works really well, but it is not very forgiving on some of my older records and I have to chosen to accept that for "the greater good", a few pops and crackles I can live with.
