Why is that a forced draw?
@mt23057 сағат бұрын
Many people don't understand why it's a draw; it's normal to ask this kind of question when you don't know how to play chess. It's basic, because in chess rules, there is what is called a draw when the same position repeats three times. Here, Magnus Carlsen has the possibility to give as many checks as he wants; regardless of Black's move, they will inevitably end up with a threefold repetition of the position, so a draw is certain.
@robertlegg23176 сағат бұрын
Thank you for that, very helpful. Couldn’t he have varied H7 between G7&G8? I’m assuming it has to be 3 times in a row

@dimitristhanasis3453 yes you are right. But I think a difference between a grandmaster and supergrandmaster above 2800 or close, are that they immediately spot the mistake in the position. You see at my level around close 1000 to 1500, you understand the position you are in and what are the attacks and weaknesses or potential weaknesses you need to protect. But at this level you don't really understand it in depth. At level magnus, they understand the position, like imagine they are the position and they carefully put every piece supporting an idea rather than simply responding to moves, and they have this image they are creating, if one move is wrong, they will immediately see a disruption in thier mindset

I remember playing a classical game against a fairly strong opponent. He was over 1900 and I was around 1400 FIDE. I sacrificed two bishops in the middle game from a Sicilian defence: Sveshnikov. I played extremely well from that point.. Only to fumble at the end where I overlooked that I could easily (?) win his queen by just moving a pawn forward. He forced a draw! My heart was shattered!! "How could I not win"? So yah, I understand how Mamedyarov must have been feeling!! These so-called strong players must be beaten until checkmate, which proves so difficult!

How come it become draw can someone explain
@columkenn5 күн бұрын
Neither can win at this point. Black had gained a winning position but when he took the pawn he allowed White to get a perpetual check. White can't checkmate black but if he stops checking the black king he will lose so White is forced to continue giving pointless checks, so the game will just continue with endless checks without any winner. So they agree a draw. It was a bad blunder by black to take that pawn. He should have centralised his queen which would have prevented White getting perpetual checks and he could have forced White to exchange queen's giving black a winning endgame with extra pawn advantage.
@lupitahaussmann4 күн бұрын
But doesn't Magnus have to serve checkmate within so many moves before he loses?
