Miodrag, I won a great game at my tournament over the weekend using the French Wing Gambit. Your videos were very inspiring and well done. Thank you!

I like them very much. I'm looking forward already to the next time I face the French in a tournament game. :) I'm going to annotate my other game and try to have it published in our local chess magazine. @@MiodragPerunovicOfficial

These lines are dangerously open for black. Since french opening players used to be positional players.. these lines require a great deal of accuracy sir. Thanks for the video..cheers

Hello! I play this variation on a regular basis and do a bit of theory on this variation. But in practice, I recently encountered that strong players (IM, FM) in the variation 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3.e5 c5 4.b4 cxb4 5.a3 bxa3 6.d4 Nc6 7.c3 Bd7 8.Bd3 8...b5!? (with the idea of further b4, undermining the base of the pawn chain and threatening the light-squared bishop with an exchange after Nb4) and if 9.Bxb5?! , then after 9...Nxe5! White gets a dubious (bad) position with no compensation for the pawn, as there are further exchanges of important pieces for White. 8...b5 9.Ng5 - doubtful because of 9...b4!. Maybe 8.Nxa3!? avoiding b5 right away?

Great point and that would be the update I’d make here because of that line! Thanks 🙏

@@MiodragPerunovicOfficial What about that update. 8...b5!? line seems like a really good refutation to this gambit. Lost 2 games against it :(

Mio, how do you feel about the line e4,e6,a3,d5,e5,c5,b4? This is the way I play this and find it better than the faster b4 as you show. Great videos btw!
@MiodragPerunovicOfficial5 жыл бұрын
longdongbongchong Man! I wanted to show that order of moves but said, people will think i joke! It’s very interesting option by white, thanks for comment!
@Ricardo72503 жыл бұрын
2.a3 is definitely more interesting if black continues on the french defense, but black can also reply to 2.a3 with b6 (or even c5) and transpose into a Owen/Hedgehog/Sicilian position. Since that's not the line I want to play against the Owen defense + Sicilian I just stick to 2.Nf3 to narrow down the transpositions.
@Ricardo72503 жыл бұрын
@Christopher Ashley If Black sticks to the French by playing 2...d5 and c5, you do get more options from 2.a3, because you are able to play Ne2 (or even Nh3) instead of Nf3 and you can also play Qg4. The move 2.Nf3 isn't necessary to be played early in this gambit line. However, 2.Nf3 is a better centralizing move than 2.a3, so in case black tries to play something else rather than the French (black can still go for Owen or Sicilian), you might prefer that you played 2.Nf3.
