What I love about the Wing Gambit is that it’s actually very positional for white WHILE leaving room for tactics and attacks. You move their pawn from c4 for more stake in the center. Because their c pawn is no longer there, you have full control over the center and black will never be able to break through. Your queen and bishop form a very nice battery on the kingside, so castling kingside is dangerous for black. Castling queenside for them is just suicidal. It’s also not as well known as the mainlines, making it a great surprise weapon. Even better, Stockfish rates the position after cxb4 as equal. A lot of unknown or tricky gambits are immediately losing, but this one isn’t. Idk if you can tell, but I like the French Wing Gambit :)

At 18:16 you can trade bishop, give a check on a5 and win the night. Ba3 is a blunder by black

I think these gambits are useful to unsettle players in bullet & blitz formats. This is exactly the kind of analysis I was looking for on the Wing Gambit. You made it interesting and informative. Thanks!

Mio thank you! Some comments, Stockfish checked. At 18:14, 6...Bc8-a6 is not possible: 7. Bxa6 Nxa6 8. Qa4+. At 19:10, 10.bxc5 is not good, as after 10...bxc5 11.a4 cxd4 12. cxd4 Nc6 the game is equal. Best is 10. dxc5! bxc5 11. Nbd2 Nc6 12. Nb3 with much better position. At 19:45, 7.Bd3 is answered with 7...Nc6 8. b5 Na5 9. Be4 Bb7 or 8. 0-0 Bb7 and Black can always answer cxd4 with ...cxb4! getting the upper hand. White has to play immidiately 7. cxd4! cxd4 and only now 8. Bd3 getting a small plus.

I know it's been 3 years but I wanted to thank big Mio for these wing gambit videos. I am developing a repertoire for faster time control tournaments like g10 or G30.

What if black play 2...d4 after 2.nf3? Going directly after d4 with 3.c3 can allow black to support d4 pawn with 3...c5. How you evaluate this position?

A question though: why shouldn't the Greek gift sac work in the variation shown at 16:00?

After quite a bit of analysis, I believe that it stills works but the attack is just slightly less strong. Having the extra knight developed on c6 makes it a bit easier for black to defend. I still favour the Greek gift sac in that variation.

at 11:11 after Nbd2 by white why can't black simply take on b5 with his bishop threatening the rook?
@MiodragPerunovicOfficial5 жыл бұрын
He may take on b5 Roberta, but after Re1, Nf3 Rb1 white has very promising attacking chances and great compensation for the given material!

Me too! I hate playing against the french, it is by far my worst statistics opening from white. Going to try this. Wouldn't go well against more tactical french players like simon williams.
