I play E6B6 almost exclusively as Black, thanks for giving me a few lines to add to my repertoire!

Of course Rozzem! And ya I've been doing this a ton lately as well, against both e4 and d4. A great system no matter what white plays honestly.

@@TheChessGiant totally agree, and much easier than learning millions of Sicilian lines just for your opponent to play 1. D4 lol

Where else have you gotten your repertoire from? I play b3 as white, I'm interested in building this as my Black repertoire too.

What if white plays A3 to stop your bishop from pinning the knight to the king?
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I had another subscriber ask about this and it is a great move for white - not played often but it should more. Ya so against this I kind of like playing f5 and then Nf6 and Bey and 0-0... also Bb7 and we have a Dutch Defense but with a fianchetto'd bishop and black has a solid game. Hope this helps. Also I just looked at your channel congrats on the success! Looks like you've put a ton of work into it.

You can transpose to the mainlines of the QID-Petrosian variation with d5 too which is solid albeit drawish.

This filled a much needed hole in my repertoire, against 1 c4 I couldn’t reliably get lines which fit my Nimzo or QID repertoire, as 1 c4 Nf6 2 g3 causes huge problems. However 1 c4 b6 fixes this, thank you!

Hey James, yes! B6 is a great option against c4 and gets rid of that immediate g3 issues. Happy you found this video helpful and I hope you enjoyed the holidays!

What do we do if they push e5 on move 3?
@TheChessGiant2 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam! I'm assuming you mean in the Owen's Defense transition? I would say in that scenario, I would probably go with 3. ...e6 and 4. ...c5 as black, trying to chip away at that center. Or, 3. ...d6 is playable too looking to potentially capture on e5. If you do see e5, maybe try these out and see which one you like more?

@@TheChessGiant Thank you! Yep meant in the Owens, at my rating anything goes
@claudiomaker29323 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand the practical purpose, even d4 players study the Owen’s defense and if they didn’t, the space advantage almost plays itself for White and the critical line in the Owen is 3 Bd3, not 3 Nc3 which is almost equal for Black. Also in the English Defense a very good move for White is 3 a3 where I think he is just better and since he has prevented Bb4 he is ready with Nc3 and e4 next
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Well the practical purpose is if you want to go into an Owen's Defense as black. It does give white the center, and Bd3 is the main move (although I see Nc3 a ton) and we cover this in our Owen's Defense video. I used to think the Owen's Defense was passive and didn't do much at all, and honestly I still completely understand that viewpoint. It simply depends on the player and if they are comfortable with the positions. Magnus Carlsen has played the Owen's Defense with great success, as an example. And I've played b6 in tournaments and my opponent's have thought 10, 20, 30, 40 minutes on the first few moves because they're not sure on how they should approach it. Hope this helps man!
@claudiomaker29323 жыл бұрын
@@TheChessGiant I’m happy the Owen is so successful to you but can you play it in tournaments consistently? If you knew an opponent knows you play the Owen would you play it against him? I simply think it’s bad if White is prepared. There is a person in my club that used to play the Owen almost exclusively as Black and after I played against them I looked up at theory and now I get so many good positions that he never plays it against me again
