We play chess for fun. There are plenty who play “better” than Simon but his wins are almost always checkmate attacks which is what it's all about. Unfortunately I try to play in his style and blunder pretty much every single game haha

John has nerves of steel in time trouble - very impressive. His playstyle is not my cup of tea, though. I will always be rooting for the romantic player. I won't say John didn't deserve to win, but I'm also sure you would've won without the endgame rookblunder. The majority of my games remind me of some of yours: Outplaying the opponent at some point and then blundering the game in a single move ;)

Jan was a properly elite GM though once upon a time (still is really). His 2650 peak rating is 100 higher than Simon or Niclas have ever reached, he was practically a super GM. 100 points difference at that level is deceptively huge.

He would get crushed by John B's Scandinavian though. I think JB should get drunk too in the rematch. For every game you win you must drink a triple spirits. For a loss a single spirits. If a draw, both players must chug a double. Ginger GM was knocking it back while JB was totally sober.

Simon! You had some really strong moments in this match, but you couldn't convert in the crucial moments. You're my favourite chess personality, but in a way I got angry with you, because I wanted you to win so badly and you basically flopped it like a mother flopper. I could see that mentally you gave up even before the last game has started. I hope you recover from this quickly. Damn man, you're a GM, you should be beating all these IMs!!!

Bartholomew is basically a GM, he just hasn't had the time and money to waste on chasing norms. I think he has 1 or 2 norms in spite of that. Many of these IMs FMs and WGMs are really not up to much, but John is top notch for an IM. He's already beaten 3 GM's in blitz matches.

1 already, but I think he might get the other two, he still competes in tournaments. However, his specialty is definitely speed matches, as demonstrated in his bullet tourneys. I think slowed down he struggles a little more with some of these GMs.

Terrific match - you played some scintillating stuff! You seemed to dictate the play and the score line feels a little harsh on you. Crazy as it is to say it (as you usually get into time trouble) - but I think you actually played a bit quickly at certain crucial points when you actually had time and missed a couple of wins. Not that I saw what to do at the time of course! That being sad, fair play to John - he's a definitely a tough nut to crack! Cannot wait for the rematch already.

In game 3, even after Black plays b5 and White followed with Qc6, Black's attack still crashes through with Be3+. Rf2 is obviously hopeless after Qxf2 and Nf4, while Kh2 is met with Bxh3 and if the White queen captures either the knight or rook, the bishop will interpose with a discovered check that mates and if instead the White bishop captures the Bishop on h3, Bf4 leads to mate in short order.
