To be fair, play ANYTHING against this old man, and he’ll probably know the theory anyway. He was one of the most hardworking and inventive chess player of all time. His contribution to chess theory on killing the king’s Indian and winning with Catalan (it is said that he had analyzed preparation leading all the way to checkmate/30 + moves) are monumental. Really the toughest GM to beat during his time!

Yeah, Kramnik seems to be really underrated when people talk about the greatest players of all time. He never dominated the game like Kasparov or Carlsen but for almost 30 years, he was at the top, being one of the toughest players to beat. He brought positional playing to a whole new level, contributed countless new ideas to opening theory and of course he beat Kasparov in a match in a very convincing manner while Kasparov was at his peak. He's also just a really nice dude, always respectful, great sense of humor.

Kramnik : "Who am I to argue with the best players in the world?" Now that's my kind of dry humor. Vladimir has not forgotten that he was one of them for around 20 years, no?
@pukulu4 жыл бұрын
Earlier, someone who is presumably a staff member of chess24 must have commented to Vladimir that he is supposed to talk during a banter blitz session. I guess that Vladimir does not ever watch other GMs doing banter blitz? I was wondering why he was so taciturn. He thought that his opponent could hear him talking. Maybe, but so what? It wouldn't help them much.

Vlad would be a top 10 player today if he had not retired.
@pukulu4 жыл бұрын
@@brunovarela2064 yes, but we can easily forget that elite chess players are still human beings and have motivation issues. Another example is Alexander Morozevich. Peter Leko is much younger than either Anand or Ivanchuk but Leko lost his will to compete at the highest level, whereas Anand remains world class at 50 years old.
