It wasn’t an act. He was under medication even during Nepo match. I think there was a slight admission at some point by him of a failure in an important relationship during that time as well. He’s gone through a lot and he’s not one to fake it.

Very few top level GMs, if any at all, had chosen Ding over Gukesh. You may have chess knowledge but you suck at critical thinking and research. The videos where GMs chose Ding were few months ago when the gap between the two was small and way before the Olympiad, like how Magnus assessed the situation quite different before and after Olympiad. Some of the videos were released and hence your confusion but in the description and if you notice carefully, you'd know when they were shot. In fact, in the recent Take Take Take video of Magnus, they said that themselves.

Peak Ding and Peak Gukesh(so far) are definitely close. Peak Ding never won candidtates. Gukesh did. Peak Ding won olympiad board 1 gold with TPR 2873. Gukesh did the same with TPR 3056 . Yes, Gukesh never had a 100 game unbeaten run(he had a 38 game run so far). But Liren's hundred game unbeaten run mostly consisted of solid draws and some wins over weak players until he was defeated by MVL. His win over Magnus also came in rapid tie breaks, not classical. In fact, it can be argued that Ding was very lucky to be world champion last time. 1>He did not qualify for candidates. They had to disqualify Karjakin to give him the spot. 2>He did not have enough games to play candidates even after that. So China organized some farming tournaments for Ding Liren. 3>He did not win the candidates, he came second. Magnus had to give up his title for Ding to even play the match. On another occasion FIDE might have simply declared the candidates winner Nepo as the new world champion(that's what they did in 1975 ). 4>Even in the match Nepo was in a comfortable lead and it was Nepo's nervy blunders, more than great play from Ding, that sealed the title for Ding.
