Young Madaminov Mukhiddin is born in 2006, and he is just an IM rated 2333 in blitz. But guess what, he played an amazing event and gained 177 Elo points. He played Magnus Carlsen in the 18th round of the event which speaks volumes of the young boy's talents!
Check out this game where Madaminov was so close to holding Magnus but in the end things went downhill for the youngster. How did that happen? Check out in the video.

In the end if you noticed both had bishops operating on white squares. All Magnus pawns were on dark squares so it can only be attacked by black king but Madaminov had his pawns on light squares which makes it easier for white king & bishop to attack.

I’m new to chess, but I think I saw what happened at the end. The kid (who played well) got stuck in an endgame with a light square bishop when all of Magnus’s remaining pawns were on dark squares making the bishop virtually useless. Magnus then played some cat and mouse with the bishop, chasing it away from his pawns to push them up. Once Magnus got a pawn into the other guy’s territory and stopped his only hope to promote (and Magnus would’ve promoted much sooner) his opponent realized it and resigned.

I STG, as soon as it got to an endgame and Magnus was slightly better, I knew Magnus was gonna do his usual "squeezing water from stone" technique, I've seen in 1000 times from him, especially because although his opponent was playing extremely well this tournament, he was still 500 rating points lower, so I knew that endgame would be extremely hard for him, especially against Magnus. Props to Madaminov tho, he played extremely well the entire game!

Completely drawn endgame however a few points worth mentioning. Subtle but known endgame technique made the position harder for Madaminov to play. 8:13 Magnus plays g5 fixing Madaminov's pawns on light squares making them a target and also ensuring his own pawns are all on dark squares going into this endgame. After Madaminov tries to relieve himself of this by going h6, Magnus reinforces it by going h4 making sure all of his pawns are on dark squares and can never be harassed by Madaminov's bishop. In this endgame Magnus ends up with his pawns on dark squares while Madaminov has all his pawns on light squares aka targets. This is a good game to illustrate how to manage pawns in a bishops of same color endgame. As I said before this was a more or less completely drawn endgame to begin with but was just harder for Madaminov to defend with such little time on the clock. You can see with Magnus' moves he's constantly picking at Madaminov's pawns forcing him to defend. Typical Magnus to press a 100% drawn endgame and force a win out of it. That's why Madaminov is so disappointed because a 2400 player should hold this type of position.
@serafar
@serafar Жыл бұрын
as much as i agree with all of what you have written down.. it never stops to amaze me how easy his opponents crumble under pressure. this is such a good example.. this thing about the pawns and the light squares is like 1000elo rating thing yet the youngster clearly falls for it.. i remember watching the live feed and hearing gm David.H pointing this out. He could have even sack a pawn and still get an easy draw out but he clearly went for the losing line maybe 1 out of 10 and he did lost in the end. Just making it clear, before you try to play Magnus you must know the table base chess in and out like playing the violin because Magnus knows this like that and can get a win if you make mistakes even playing blindfolded. It is that important to know the strong draw points in every table base chess scenarios so you can get the damn draw playing him. ive seen this so many times its just sad how they end up doing it. Alireza did the same in a similar endgame this year over classical game..

I didn't look at it with an engine but at 10:13 Ke6 seemed like a blunder that allowed Magnus to win. Magnus may still have been able to win, but if black were to play Bb3 or Be6 how would Magnus go about winning?

Madaminov placed all his pawns on the same color as white's bishop. That's very nearly an assured loss, as Karpov found out against Kasparov in their famous last round game.

Yeah he's a noob for sure. He needs a lot of work on his play. He made several obvious blunders. How could he lose to Carlsen especially with a good opening position?

Ouch. Black bishop was the only thing keeping Magnus's pawns from cruising. He never should have taken it. Magnus kept serving it up to him and finally kid took the bait.
