Timestamps for my reference but awesome if it's helpful to others: Game 1 - Sicilian Defense Rook Placement Quiz 1 - 2:34 When you don't want to trade and play a retreating move - 5:12 Instructive Middle-game Moment - 5:07 Game 2 - Blackmar-Diemer Gambit Game 3 - Caro Kann Defense Game 4 - London Opening Rook Placement Quiz 2 - 23:53 Game 7 - Queen’s Pawn c4 Opening What to play against c4 in this opening - 48:59 Why you don't want to play b6 in this position - 51:21 Game 8 - Sicilian Defense Simple strategy in an opposite bishop endgame - 1:04:15 Note: If I didn't mention an opening, it means it's a regular e4.e5 opening I'll be updating this if I notice additional teaching points in future watch throughs

TIMESTAMPS: *(**0:45**) - GAME 1 [WHITE, SICILLIAN DEFENSE]* - REMEMBER how to respond to e6, e5. Play d4 anyways. Don’t fish for those center pawns if you haven’t castled yet. - (2:33) Where should you place your rooks in similar positions? -- NOTICE the isolated pawn, so adding pressure on to that file would be very beneficial. - (8:08) INSIGHT: Always take free pieces rather than trading lower value pieces for more valuable pieces. *(**9:30**) - GAME 2 [BLACK, BLACKMAR-DIEMER GAMBIT]* - Accepting the Gambit. - (11:14) INSIGHT: If you need to defend a piece, see if you can develop another at the same time. - (11:38) INSIGHT: When you’re accepting Gambits, you’re always ahead in material. So it’s a good idea to trade. You don’t HAVE to trade, but you should be happy to trade equal pieeces. - (13:28) WHAT NEXT?: Knight moves to the center are usually good moves to play in the Middlegame when you don’t know what moves to play. - (15:36) INSIGHT: When you’re up a piece, trading queens can be SO valuable. *(**16:18**) - GAME 3 [WHITE, CARO-KANN DEFENSE]* - (16:28) REMEMBER / THEORY: How do you respond to d4, d3, c4? - (20:08) MIDDLEGAME PLANS: Push center pawns when your opponent doesn’t have pawns that can match it. If your pieces are well-developed, it’d be good for you to open up the position. - (20:52) PAUSE. White to Play and Win Material!! *(**22:04**) - GAME 4 [BLACK, LONDON SYSTEM]* - (22:15) REMEMBER: How do you respond to dxc5? -- The point of playing c5 is to capture back with your bishop. So play e6! - (23:53) INSIGHT: Where do you want your rooks here? -- You should think about what you and your opponent are going to do. If you or the opponent’s going to push pawns in the center, which files open up? - (28:30) WHAT NEXT? If you don’t know what to do, you CAN trade all the rooks. *(**31:05**) - GAME 5 [BLACK, GIUCO PIANO: PIANISSIMO]* - Generally helpful gameplay, nothing specifically instructive. - (41:23) ANALYSIS. *(**42:11**) - GAME 6 [WHITE, THREE KNIGHTS]* - Generally helpful gameplay, nothing specifically instructive. *(**48:46**) - GAME 7 [BLACK, QUEEN’s PAWN: SYMMETRICAL, 3.c4]* - (50:09) TRANSITIONS: Bringing the bishop move out, eventhough you placed it on e7 isn’t a waste of time. But you further develop the piece. - (55:49) How do you maneuver your rooks on the last two ranks to promote a passed pawn with your own rook blocking it? *(**56:23**) - GAME 8 [WHITE, SICILLIAN DEFENSE]* - (1:04:20) ENDGAME TECHNIQUE: In Opposite-Colour Bishop Endgames, put everything on the opposite square, and you want to use your King a ton. *(**1:07:07**) - GAME 9 [BLACK, 4 KNIGHTS: ITALIAN]* - (1:10:20) PAUSE. How can black continue developing/improving their position? -- NOTICE possible checks, captures, attacks with your move. - (1:16:05) ANALYSIS. Solid loss, interesting resource.

53:39 I'm excited for when this series reaches 1600+, the amount of knowledge I have been accumulating from this series so far is astonishing, especially gaining confidence in the early game. Also activating the King when in doubt was a very useful advice and has gotten me some wins already. Great series!

Continuing to love this series. An idea would be to index the episodes somehow, so, eg, I could find that one where you destroyed the Caro Kann, or where you showed how to combat the Vienna.

Lotta good games in this lesson. Several "gotcha" combinations. Will be long time before I could play this level, but fun to watch. Thanks Aman. I think you're a great teacher.

I started watching from my rating, level 3 rules. Last 7 days I played 37 games 27w/9l/1d. Thanks Aman you’re great. Especially I do excellent against sicilian now that I know c3 and now I know where to place my rooks, these have helped me tremendously

Really appreciate the explanations, especially ones in areas where I don’t really understand, like the placement of the rooks that I usually don’t see quite right 26:14ff 🙏

Just found this channel of an r/chess post and its one of the best treasure troves I've found on YT for improving chess. Can't beleive there are only 20k subs... it's gonna be much higher soon I hope! Question: as a 1400 or so player, would you recommend starting from the beginning (400) ?

12:05 wasn't it better to take with the knight instead of pawn since this pawn is a passed pawn, and also considering advice "always take with a piece first"?

19:49, doesn't Qxe6 win material? (The line I'm thinking of is: Qxe6, fxe6, Nxe6+, Kg8, Nxc7, random move [probably Nd7] and finally Nxa8.)

Idk if you ever found out why, but ultimately it’s impossible for white to hold that pawn. It’s better to win it another way rather than have a misplaced queen and lose tempi.
