One of the most beautiful K5LA horns I've ever heard sing a tune! Pure nostalgia. The Eastern Kentucky Appalachian valley just makes this the icing on the cake.

The first couple years of K5LA production, AirChime applied a larger tag full of AirChime patent numbers. Apparently the tags even ended up on some K3H horns made during that period as well. The tag is larger than your typical Holden/AirChime tags and Nathan tags, hence "big tag" K5LA.

I have looked everywhere for a Chessie System "big tag" K5LA to no avail and I'm dying to have one, if anyone knows where I can find one for a decent price please let me know.

Would this particular K5LA be from 1977? Seems like the 5 bell sits back in the chord which makes me think it might be base-restricted.

There is no base restrictor in the 5 bell, the 2 bell is un-bored and none of the bells are "flat-footed" (ie. all bells have o-ring grooves/not "corker" bells). For multiple reasons, I'm of the opinion that this horn was made late-78 or very early-79 at the latest.
