The quieter 1 bell really does give that 'whistle' effect that Swanson intended for K horns. It's too bad the 1 bell rarely is actually the quietest, even on the Corkers.

F40PHR 281 K5's were produced as early as 1954

ICrailfanner That’s not fully correct. The K5LA was invented in the mid-1970’s. The Nathan K5H was invented sometime in the 60’s but didn’t catch on until the 80’s. Most railroads went to the Nathan M series before Amtrak and Chessie System started going for the K5LA series

Trinity Court Studios the K3L and K5H dates back to the 1950s, not the 1960s. And they weren’t produced by Nathan-Airchime as that was the American branch that didn’t start to produce K horns until the 1970s. The company producing K horns was Just Airchime and later Holden-Airchime.
