I'm 1100 but my best game was because of the Halloween gambit and based of that game the engine estimated my rating to be 1900, this is definitely my favourite opening now.

Kings gambit also have this hardcore feeling of tactical warfare except you don't sacrifice a knight (in most cases) but engage in f file bullying and every single person will have a different way of dealing with it so it's always fun and you also can do it in the 2nd move which is cool

Vienna gambit >>> , I’m 1600 and the amount of times I get this exact position but with both knights is ridiculous, people LOVE decling the gambit and developing the knight , all you have to do is take e6 and they walk themselves into this every single time

King's Gambit, for me, only really works when they don't run the Falkbeer Countergambit. Once they do that it just becomes "ugh"

Muzio Gambit seems crazy but I'm a 1200 and I haven't gotten a person who even knows the mainline despite playing King's Gambit for months so it'll be a while before I get to play the Muzio

Accepting the gambit is completely inaccurate, idk why people accept it lol. Do you Vienna players still gambit against a symmetrical? Or do you go for a bc4 bc5 qg4 thing? Btw this is coming from a Catalan/grünfeld/Réti/petrov player.

There’s a variation of this called 4 knights Gunsberg Variation where you move pawn to a3 hoping they develop the bishop in which case you then take the pawn and sacrifice the knight only to bring two pieces into forking range. So your pawn move forks both pieces and you win a piece back and end up similar position. Magnus used it when he was 9 but his opponent declined the bishop to c5 so he ended up with a position more similar to Halloween gambit

Question for a veteran then, how do you respond if they move their knight back, but depending on which pawn you move forward, they either move queen side knight back to e5 or the pawn past towards d5 to blockade the dominance?

I've played the halloween gambit a lot actually! In the tripple digits a lot of people just blunder a knight, but black is -1 so most higher rated people will still "win" the middle game. Overall I actually wouldnt recommend it
