Carlsen won too because in the last play he pinned the black bishop so black would have lost the pawn on b5 after a4.

Spoilers: Carlsen wins on time with 17 seconds. According to this recap, there had been 51 moves since the last pawn move, so a draw could have been claimed. According to Carlsen he had gotten into a winning position by the end of the game, though. www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1759360

@@alexanderkrumov4296 what do you mean by pin ? like if he takes that pawn carlson lose the bishop right, black can just defend that position by moving black bishop backward , he is still moving ( he's not stuck, and black can still defend that black pawn in b5 )

Юра Куликов Maybe, because rook endgames are tend to be draw. It's easy to defend with rook rather than bishop. As Tarrash said, " ладьевые окончания не выигрываются"

Synn Carlsen won because lequang resign in a loosing position. he could have clame a 50 moove draw though.

Synn after a4 it is absolutely winning . but yes lequang ran out of time. carlsen managed to lure the black king to the king side to make his break through in the queen side but carlsen missed the early win in the endgame according to my computer. lequang should have clame a 50 moove draw.

Would it really? 1. Bf1 2. a4 bxa4 3. BxBf1 march down and promote If white uses king to kick black bishop out, black king marches to take e5. I don't think a4 is a win. Edit: it doesn't mater where the bishop is (besides c4). Black will promote if a4 is exchanged. Black can just hop the bishop d3-f1 and white can't win.
