Amazing series, love it! As a suggestion, maybe play 30-minute games and shorten the video afterwards, just not to run out of time. The games are really interesting, and it is a bummer for your opponents to lose on time, considering that they are playing against you - a much stronger opponent.

I also have a similar rating around 1500 but you guys turned my view on this game upside down. I've never seen it this way on KZbin. Really very interesting not only because of the different rating that diverges by 700 points, but also how two different players reason. Keep this format going, it's very interesting. It would also be interesting if it could be done with someone who is 200-300 points above Nelson or at his level. Congratulations on a job perfectly done.

One of the main differences i've noticed as a viewer between 1500 and 2200 is the educational value of the games. I've watched many of Patrick's games and he will not be able to explain the rationale behind a lot of his moves, nor anticipate the potential tactics the opponent may have (not meant to be a critisism, he is 500 higher rated than I am), whereas chessvibes forecasts what is going to happen, or explain very early on why somehting is a mistake.

2:08 Bc4 isn't a mistake. It's a book move. After 4 Bc4 Nxe4, the line is 5 Nxe4 d5 (the fork they both saw), 6 Bd3 dxe4, 7 Bxe4... The exchange is equal, black ends up with a pawn and knight in the centre while white has a knight and bishop in the centre and can castle on the next move (if they want). Black has a couple options for move 7. If they bring their bishop out, they also can castle next.

41:43 I found a crushing move for nelson, which at the end of it, black has to just let go of the queen for a rook. Rf1!!! If he takes your rook, it's mate! Can't take your queen cuz it's pinned. So he has I think only a few valid options. First, unlikely, but let go of the rook, and march down with the king. Very risky. Second, move the queen to either c8+ or g1. After c8+, probably Rf8, Rxg6+, hxg6,h7, but you're still fine you probably go underneath the pawn if you wanna be certain maybe you can even take it. If you do go h8, the position requires of him to take your rook on f8 and lose his queen, then take your other rook.

Around 12:00 you don't consider Bf6 which stops the tactic by overprotecting e5. Is there any reason that you didn't even consider this? I'm thinking that it allows Qe7 and also to put the QB on a more active square than d7.

Try to analyse what your mistakes were, remember what got you there in terms of the last few moves, and try not to get into that in the next game. Also, try and take a longer time to make moves in game, atleast 10 seconds; use a longer time scale like 10 min or 15 min too

At that level you need to start memorizing openings and getting really good at a core set. Have an answer for multiple Sicilian openings, London, petrov, philidor, Caro, King's Indian, Spanish and Italian setups, and the other popular openings, and ensure you know the continuations, and against the sidelines just keep developing your instincts, tactics, and understanding of general positions. Get good at seeing mating threats. Of course getting to 1250 you probably got used to king safety and that has to get better too, or at least that's how my journey from 1000-1350 was. Biggest thing though will be getting out of the opening with really good winning chances. Another personal thing for me was learning to accept a draw when I have an uncertain position. If I can get out of a game I'm not comfortable with, I try to take it if I can force it or force opponent into a bad move to avoid the draw (which happens a lot tbh and I won a lot of games on that).
@Cl0udPvP11 ай бұрын
Don’t focus all of your time on learning openings because it doesn’t matter how much opening knowledge you have, if you struggle with blunders and you blunder pretty much every game which I know you’ll do, you need to focus on improving them. Just play caro Kann for 1. E4 and king’s Indian defense for anything else as black. As for white, I recommend maybe trying the London system or queen’s gambit because you don’t need to study them for hours to know what to do, and then you’ll have more time to try and stop blunders. And don’t except draws when you have an uncomfortable position because you’ll never learn how to get out of them. You need to embrace the losses and mistakes you’ve made, and try to attempt to not make the mistake you made before. If you really want to play 1. E4 then just learn the Italian game because it’s aggressive, and for some reason everyone plays e5 as a response for e4 at your level.
