anne percival my mum has had bronchiectasis for 55 years. She had a lobectomy at 14, an empyema, lung abscess and a life time of amoxicillin and doxycycline. Her story is identical to yours in that as soon as they finished she would have a few weeks of being ok and then her secretions would build up and the coughing and crackling would really affect her daily activities. She recently did a 2 year trial at our local hospital and has been on gentamicin via a nebuliser twice a day. She hasn’t looked back. It has worked wonders for her. I hardly hear her cough and she has so much more energy and looks tonnes better. Perhaps it would be worth mentioning it to your GP or consultant!! Gent is not licensed via a nebuliser route but that’s what this trial was all about. (Just thought you may be interested). Stay safe with this Covid 19 nightmare.

I DID have a lung function test but they haven't even let me know any results ! anything I DO know about bronchiectasis is by googling ! and doesn't seem right ! I know being under NHS and covid has caused huge backlogs but not even any advice about managing it 🙄😒?... wrong ! I found this video today and seeing if I can find an acapella (?)

Thank you for this video. I found it very helpful as I am still learning how to handle the condition. I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis five years ago. I did not understand the condition at all and thought useful life was over for me. After about a year I began to understand how to manage my condition. Now I take a daily walk around a fairly large shopping centre which gives me plenty of exercise, fresh air, interesting things to look at and, very importantly I have a friendly word to say here and there to strangers at bus stops, shopping queues and so on. Most people appreciate a friendly word and a kind smile and am not put off by the occasional bad response, I just quietly turn away. With practice I found that I was listening to their stories with patience and without judgement or being tempted to give advice. Mental health is vital, isolation can be devastating. Helping others, when help is accepted, it extremely uplifting. Most importantly, I do all I can to keep my lungs clear and continue doing as many things that I enjoy. Life is for living. Reading aloud is one way of helping. I occasionally read chapters from the bible and put them on KZbin. It might take several days of trying before I can get a complete chapter out in one go and my voice might be husky. I don't give in. Love life and people and contribute in any way you can to the happiness of others, whilst taking very good care of yourself. Look after yourself. God bless you.

@@pataleno Thank you. Honestly, the transition from out and about to total lockdown has not been a problem, so far. I just do things differently whilst at the same time becoming aware of those things that once were important and those things that I thought were important, once. Those of us who are Christians experience that "peace of God that goes beyond all understanding." I am so grateful to Jesus Christ. God bless you.

Thank you for this detailed video. I was struck with reactive airway disease a little over 3 years ago and was on medication until a year ago. The chronic stage had lasted for about 6 months. Now I'm absolutely fine, off the med and very rarely if at all do I feel slight discomfort. But now with COVID-19, I'm feeling slightly worried about this being a comorbidity... I've been doing hot water gargle with salt every day plus steam inhalation, just to keep the upper and lower respiratory system clear of mucous, especially since I also have allergic sinusitis. I'm doing deep breathing exercises too. I've realized that besides reacting to smoke and chemicals, I do tend to react with breathing difficulty to stress as well.

@@idontwanttoparticipateplea212 there's an Indian herb 'Ajwain' that you could use with steam inhalation. I'm not sure of the correct English name (Carroway?) but you might find it in an Indian store in your city or on Amazon... Also good for hot fermentation in a poultice. Dries up the phlegm really fast.

I like the idea of the belt, will try it. When I get abit breathless, or just can't 'suck-up' that one deep breath, I lower my waistband, regardless what I have on. By a few inches below it's normal position, this seems to allow me to breath deep. My waistband was/is not tight, but I'm pushing against it to try for the breath, this helps me.

Much depends on the area of the lungs affected...... in bronchiectasis some of the bronchial tubes have been permanently damaged.....some people only have a small area of their lungs which are damaged, while others are not so lucky and the condition is far more debilitating. I am one of the more fortunate ones... and have led a relatively trouble free 70 years...although I usually have to get antibiotics after a bout of flu or a particularly heavy cold

It’s not hygienic the way the instructor handles these instruments then gives to the woman to put in her mouth, then takes them back I hope she doesn’t use them at her next talk session, very dangerous way of passing diseases on. As a health care professional dealing with breathing she should know better. My doctors surgery used to use the same asthma testing pump on everyone, only realised this, after on day being handed a pump with lipstick on it, I went bananas as soon as I saw it, my doctor shocked, I showed ty lipstick to him he couldn’t apologise enough, it not on saving a few pennies buy putting patients life’s at risk of AIDS TB HEPATITIS HERPES etc, obviously I wanted tests straight away as I had been using the pump on previous occasions. Happy to say al was clear, and a sign put up in the doctors rooms, and verbally old all doctors not to share any equipment whatsoever, it should of been standard practice, now we get disposable caps on the testing pumps. Praise the universe.
