I don't think Chet's mannerisms in this video have anything to do with drugs. The band sounds really bad and Chet had his hands tied. There is nothing he could do to save this performance. On his solo on Beatrice the piano and bass were in two totally different parts of the form, Chet even announced "Top" to signal the top of the form and they still couldn't get it together. The sad part of this performance is not Chet, it's the pick up band.

Chet, always wonderful to the trumpet. The problem was certainly in the wake of the drums, which causes a vibration if not loosened and, as sometimes happened, with the sound technique that used to increase the volume of the trumpet and cause distortions. Unfortunately, they will always put the drug issue at the expense of the best - its sound, its genius, its music. One detail, Chet was always on drugs and yes, Graillier drank a lot, this was not the problem with music. Judging personally, they don't matter at all. Another detail, to go to a country like Turkey he certainly had an authorized stock of Metadon, whose effects would not be those of heroin. Grateful for the rarity!

@@gatozagarra7635 Thanks Gato, it is not easy to recognize what causes make such situation as in this concert. Several, one got the impression the acoustics in the hall might be bad. Can the piano player hear the other musicians? As well as the crippling substance dependance spread among so many of the "old school" jazz greats. I sure check out Gralliers playing in another recording.

The piano couldn't keep up. You can see how angry he is from the 13:00 onwards, when he turns around and looks at the pianist, his facial expression and when he gets up and walks around the stage...

I think the situation has nothing to do with drugs. Michael is very drunk and therefore he cannot play well and Chet is very angry for this reason. Just look at 19:38.

@alpaslan583 жыл бұрын

This was just months before his death and he was in a really bad point of his addiction.So Ricardo and Michelle were (for a short period of time) hooked on heroin. As a musician who suffered that horrible dissease I know very well how some guys cant handle it and some guys don't.A very hard life of up and downs.... On the other hand Michelle Grailler,piano, was a very special musician with so much influence from Bill Evans.Beutiful lines and great taste.To see him on this condition is really very sad.
