Thanks for giving us a tour of a magnificent plane made by a modern master Paul Hamler. So much to learn from old tools and Paul. Loved your use of spills as pointers!

Nice video. Paul Hamler, Carl Holtey and Jim Kingshot got me started making reproduction tools. I bought one of these from Paul years ago. The workmanship and engraving is perfect. He turned me on to Lindsays power engraver. Lindsey’s hardige T10 lathe was restored like this plane. The amount of time and skill to do this level of work is incredible. So I feel that it was a bargain then and an investment today.

Chester, nice informative video, there’s a short slide show on my KZbin channel showing many of the custom fixtures used for machining the plane.

The hole on the end of the rod is for tightening or removing the rod, not for a cotter pin, as in other models of similar design. No one i know of has ever used a cotter pin there. Cheers

While what you say is true, I also keep a cotter pin in each of my combination planes ever since a friend loosened both bolts and urned a plane around with them loose. I lost a hard to find fence for a no 41.

Does your Hamler have an identifying mark by the maker? I recently purchased one. It’s beautiful but I’m surprised that I can’t find anything indicating it was made by Hamler.

Its strange how in the modern times when we make tools we don't make them visually stimulating as our fore fathers did.
