Chettinad chicken kulambu | செட்டிநாடு சிக்கன் குழம்பு | Chicken gravy

Chettinad chicken kulambu (Gravy) is prepared by cooking chicken in a chettinad masala paste made with among others black stone flower, kapok buds, star anise, bay leaf and fresh curd. This gravy suits well for rice, chapati, paratha & Dosa items.

Ingredients:
• Chicken - 1/2 kg
• Oil
• Shredded coconut - 1 cup
• Black stone flower - கல்பாசி - 2
• Bay leaf - பிரியாணி இலை
• Cardamom| ஏலக்காய் - 2 no
• Star Anise | அண்ணாச்சி பூ - small
• Cloves | இலவங்கம் - 2 No
• Cinnamon | பட்டை - small piece
• Kapok Buds |Marathi Mokku | மராத்தி மொக்கு -1
• Coriander seed | கொத்தமல்லி விதை - 2tsp
• Cumin | சீரகம் - 1 tsp
• Fennel Seed | சோம்பு - 1/2 tsp
• Pepper | மிளகு - 1/2 tsp
• Curry leaf| கறிவேப்பிலை
• Dry chilli | வரமிளகாய் - 4 no
• Ginger garlic Paste - 2 tsp
• Chopped onions - 2 medium
• Cut tomato - 2 no
• Chilli powder - as per need
• Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
• Salt - as per need
• Fresh curd - 2 scoop (approx.)

Once I had a mind-blowing chicken curry from some random restaurant in childhood with Kerala parotta . I still remember the taste of it . It's the best ever I had . I keep expecting the same taste in every place I visit but nothing matched my memories. But this recipe took me back to my childhood . It was just exceptional. Thanks a ton ma ❤️

Thank you... this came out really well and everyone enjoyed it. I tweaked the recipe a bit. I used fresh ground cashewnuts instead of coconut and also saute and ground shallots before adding it to the gravy. I tried it today, taste and smell was awesome, but one variation i did , I did not fry the powder directly in the oil, but after I added the chkn, I added the powder One more variation along with Coconut, added 5 cashews and small ginger piece while dry roasting and added the paste.finally and left an whistle, it was awesome flavour, thank u kalas kitchen

Thanks for sharing.. What you have tried would be bit different taste than the one shared here... As you have added both coconut and cashew it would have reduced the spiciness.. If you like spicy food, then I recommend you to try it once without cashews.. You would like that also..🙂
