The 93 is only required in the track section of the manual. In the fuel section it does still say as low as 87 can be used. Compare pages 163 in manual which is for track. And page 212 for fuel.

You are correct. I just read my 2019 manual as well. Mine states the same thing - page 163 for track and 212 for fuel. I always use 93 anyway.

Do you like to waste your money on premium unleaded give the extra money to me never been proven that does anything increase performance I've had an Infiniti G37 coupe said hi octane only always ran 87 when I put 94 in notice no difference at all in performance then 87 after that nothing but 87 put over 240,000 miles on the car right there that evidence its bullshit. Now I have a C6 Z06 did the same thing put 95 Ultra in it then ran 87 the only difference I noticed that my wallet had less money never had a problem with the car runs ridiculously awesome on 87 don't fall for the hype it's bullshit. All marketing crap something like organic food compared to regular food in a blind taste test you won't tell the difference. Jeff's your wallet will.

How can he comment on something he obviously never read? 91 octane is fine. You can't get 93 in a lot of the country and, additionally, octane requirements drop as altitude increases. At 5,000 ft. an engine dyno tuned to run on 91 at sea level runs perfectly on 89. At 10,000 ft. that same engine runs great on 87. I know this from 15 years personal experience driving the Beartooth Highway in Wyoming/Montana. The reduction in octane requirement with increase in altitude doesn't hold for turbo or supercharged engines but Chevrolet ECU programming adjusts for altitude and octane. I wouldn't run less than 91 in a supercharged LT5, but for N/A lower octane is fine at altitude.

Great vid rick, I’ve had my grand sport for a few months now and always put 91 in thinking that’s fine. I never knew it called for 93. 91 is the highest grade we can get at pumps in Canada for almost every station. Only petro Canada has 94. I guess I’ll start going there

I run the highest available. One time I used 89 while on the highway and it seemed doggy. I can honestly tell the difference between 91 and 93 or 94 if it’s available at a Sunoco. With 93 it seems a tad peppier than 91. Sam’s Club has the best gas price but they often don’t open until 9am and close early (not 24/7) and also no cash sales

My question, did GM change the requirements for all the C7's? Would this be a manual change for the 2014's? I am at 5000 feet above sea level, we can get by with a little less octane. Also, The higher the octane, the less power your engine develop, above what is needed to stop detonation. Higher octane fuel has a lower amount of total energy.

Best to know ur compression ratio before choosing fuel octane , usually high octane for high compression and lower octane for lower compression.

Michael Graham EXACTLY!! you dont use 93 to make it run better or for the additives. If your car is designed to run 87, you will not see any advantage to run 93. The higher octane rating is to reduce knock in the engine and is required in engines with a higher compression ratio. It is to reduce knock and component damage.

@@RustyZipper your camaro doesn't have a carb and the only rubber damageable by ethanol is rubber created pre 2004-2007. Ethanol is less corrosive than gasoline, but it does attract moisture. Therefore when sitting water is being drawn in. The minerals in the water then oxidize. So you are correct there's precautions to be taken for some things like boats and older tech. However most modern technology is safe.

I can tell you Rick and Chevrolet that there are many towns in Texas that don’t have 91 Octane. Having 93 Octane in a Texas City is based on population size of the city and the pollution from the number of automobiles in that city. For example every gas station in the DFW area has 93 Octane. If you go west roughly 200 miles to Abilene, TX you will find 91 Octane is the highest octane required. There may be a station or two with 93 but 91 is all that can usually be found. In Lubbock, TX everything is 91 octane except for two stations that elected to offer 93. Not sure why Chevrolet mandates 93 octane when it cannot be found in all cities and towns where Corvette owners live.

This video is deceitful. He is showing you the fuel requirements for RACING, not public road use. Notice he is on page 163, which is a continuation from a section that starts on page 161: 'Track Events and Competitive Driving' This is where your 93-100+ required/recommneded comes from and why it says to change the auto trans fluid every 15 hours of usage. Page 23 of the 2019 C7 owner's manual states for LT1: 'Premium Recommended ... 93 TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is recommended. Unleaded gasoline with an octane rating as low as 87 may be used, but it will reduce performance and fuel economy.' LT4 and LT5 says 91 may be used with same caveats as 87 fuel on LT1. No E85 or FlexFuel, 'Gasoline-ethanol fuel blends greater than E15 ... cannot be used in this vehicle'

What Rick quotes is for TRACK EVENTS AND COMPETITIVE DRIVING. In addition to p.23 fuel requirements for normal driving are also mentioned on p.212.

Hey, they weren’t flashing. I’m not good with tech stuff but I believe the reason is most cameras can’t capture LED lights with there lenses so on video it looks like it’s flickering when in real person it’s just a solid light.

I hate putting ethanol in anything , all i can get here is 90 octane non ethanol, they sell it as boat gas. MY 2019 Z51 runs the same on ethanol free gas as it does on shell v power 93 octane. I put ethanol free gas in all my vehicles as well as lawn mower and chain saw ect. Corn needs fed to my cows not in my engines!!!

I’m 5’9” over 200#’s and can drive 10-12 hours a day in them. I love them, it’s everyone’s preference. My recommendation is over 200#’s- get the GT seats
