I am two weeks in to a brand new 2024 Equinox EV 2RS in Galaxy Gray Metallic. It’s honestly the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and definitely the most fun to drive. It feels solid and grounded. It is sleek and modern inside and out. It gets up and moves. I do not miss CarPlay whatsoever, the built in Google OS is fluid and responsive. I can honestly say that I’ll never go back to an internal combustion vehicle.

I have a 2025 Equinox EV AWD in Riptide Blue. This is a really nice ride. I am here in the heart of the New England winter. I start the car from inside the house and the auto setting warms the vehicle for me. I like the heated seats and steering wheel. I will have a charger installed at home soon. I am eager to take a longer cruise this summer.

We got a 25 LT a couple of days ago and am in love with it…!!! Same color as yours. Wifey topped off the battery at her work yesterday. It cost us $1.00. One dollar for essentially a half tank of fuel. This is going to be great…!!!

I live in an apartment complex, that doesn't have any opportunities for EV charging, not even level 1. I found an indoor parking ramp, that's walking distance to my apartment, level 2 charging. It's free charging on weekends and holidays, so if I have to charge during the week, I pay $1-4 to do it, depending on how long I'm there. Gotta love finding those cheap charging stations!

You don’t have to actually pull the front door handle to unlock the back. It’s enough to just lightly tap it (the inside of the pivoted out front door handle). But I still agree, of course. It’s annoying that we can’t just do it on the rear door handle directly.

Great review! Thanks for that. On our 3LT FWD, we got the 19¨winter tires - Michelin X-Ice HL, and we feel the difference…but our tire guy tells us that once we are due for new tires, Michelin has a better 21¨tire on the market, developped for EV’s. We will certainly change when its time. Can you measure the tread depth of your tires @ 10,000 miles & 20,000 miles? It will give us an idea of when the tire change will come! Thanks again for such detailed informations. Good job!

Thanks for a great video. I have never driven an EV, but I'm really leaning towards buying a Chevy Equinox EV. I don't need any one feature such as charging speed to be superlative, since I'm a low mileage driver. I'm interested in what the overall experience would be, and you have really covered that item by item. I do see the wheel diameter as a a big issue, and I would lean towards the 19 inch wheels, with more rubber and less metal.

Nice overview...I'm planning on leasing the all wheel drive version of this, because my Toyota Prius is losing compression on 2 cylinders, and will not pass emissions. The other two cars I was looking at, were the Honda Prologue, and the Volkswagen ID-4. I'm not too worried about charge rates, because I charge at home. The couple of times I might fast charge in an entire year, I'll simply plan for the time it takes. Charge speeds would only be a factor if I could not charge at home, and had to rely on public fast charging, that would be a disadvantage. If I couldn't charge at home, I would probably get another Hybrid, because it's actually cheaper to fuel a Hybrid, than to always fast charge an electric. I won't subscribe to the Tesla charge app, because I won't charge anywhere near the 145 kWh necessary for the 10 cent per kWh discount to save me any money. I'll just pay the higher rate, if I find myself needing a "Supercharger". I don't care about "Super Cruise", I would just like adaptive cruise control. I'm getting the most basic trim possible, in all wheel drive, so it might just have basic cruise control, which is just fine, but adaptive cruise would sure be nice! As far as acceleration goes, while not a Tesla Plaid, or Rimac Nevera, its acceleration is still more than adequate.

Tire Rack has multiple options for aftermarket rims and tires. I put 18in wheels with softer tires and the ride is noticeably better. The Equinox rides so much better and feels "lighter" with smaller tires and non "run flat" tires with a stiff sidewall

Appreciate your time and efforts, especially equinox ev videos. I have the 2RS AWD 2024 version. My thoughts. 21 inch tires look better but if smaller tires get better range I'd rather have them. Ride is good with 21s. Super Cruise is just awesome. I use the turn signal activated auto lane change setting. Charging is not an issue at the rate it's at. It's at the beginning of acceptable and convenient. No worries. I really like the software. Works great. Google is really good. Heat pump works great cooling and heating. Noticeable difference in consumption compared to resistive type heater. Heated seats and steering wheel work awesome. I really look forward to your cold weather winter videos with range loss and charging as well as handling on the 21 inch oem tires.

I have the AWD version and mirror almost all your thoughts. I feel the Equinox is a great value for an EV, it just gives you a lot for the money. I have been using Superchargers and have not noticed the GM dip yet. I would echo your thoughts and think coming in at a Supercharger at around 15% and charge to 80% ... most of the time you'll avoid the dip. I appreciate the power of the AWD for passing/merging and the penalty of about 5-10% range was worth it to me. (I'm avg about 3.1 - 3.2 efficiency in warm weather).

Our biggest struggle with having this car is the limited charging network. We live in central WV and with Enelx closing we have lost all chargers within an hour of us. We bought the Tesla adapter but none of the stations within an hour of us unlocked either and are still Tesla only. It’s made west Va a true charging desert and it’s made us only use the car around town.

I've had my 2024 Equinox 2LT EV for 7 weeks and love it. One thing I've noticed is that the back exterior gets dusty/ dirty within a week of getting it washed, even if I'm just doing mostly around town and highway driving (30 mile commute one way) on all paved roads. Why is that?
@ziploc2000
@ziploc2000 2 ай бұрын
My guess is the hatchback design creates more of a vortex at the rear end that sucks dirt out of the surroundings and dumps it on the back end of the car. A sleeker design that cuts through the air more smoothly such as a sedan could create less of a vortex, and dump less dirt. That said my old Sedan still got plenty dirty. We're also in that time of year when dust and dirt that's been dropping on the roads all Summer is now wetter and stickier, so more likely to stick to the vehicle, whereas in the drier Summer much of it doesn't stick, or blows/is sucked off.

One thing that needs to added when folks talk about the great charging speed advantage is that you need a 350kw charger to hit that 18 minute figure and most chargers are less than that. You won't do that at a Tesla station or at anything less than a 350kw CCS charger which means generally speaking the gap between the equinox and ioniq5 is not as great as stated.
@theaverageev
@theaverageev 2 ай бұрын
I believe the difference for Ioniq 5 at a 150kW is 8 minutes longer. So it is still about 10 minutes fast assuming perfect conditions for the Equinox.
@shethjones4494
@shethjones4494 2 ай бұрын
@@theaverageev thats fine, but that is a more realistic figure considering that the overwhelming majority of DCFC points in America are NOT 350kw. Hyundai just said the 2025 Ioniq will need 30 min to charge 10-80 at a tesla station, but the existing models with adapter will need more than that. So 10 minutes more for occasional dcfc on road trips isn't exactly a crisis for most people.
@theaverageev
@theaverageev 2 ай бұрын
@@shethjones4494 I agree. It depend on each person’s specific use case. When I’m traveling with my family, the car is usually waiting on us. So 10 mins longer isn’t a big deal.

@@theaverageev I appreciate that you are a real world user- many EV reviewers these days are just spec junkies and once the newest, fastest charging thing comes out they trash everything that's not class leading with no regard for how people actually use these vehicles. And let's not forget the used EV market is getting bigger every month and most of the used models out there are not coming anywhere near what the E-GMP cars can do on the right charger. Even Tesla's can't match them but people survive.

Something I am curious about, and maybe you can work it into your cold weather reviews, is how do the recessed headlights perform in snowy weather? As a former long-time winter weather driver from Buffalo, I wonder whether they will pack with crud and slush , thus making them useless, or do they have some sort of mechanism or heat source to keep them clean? And even if they only fill with snow, how hard are they to brush off after a good night's snow?

Nothing on the Tesla app about ordering an adapter. This is a huge problem for me. I drive by multiple Tesla facilities to find an Electrify America or other. In a previous video you suggested that Tesla/GM won,t know you used an aftermarket. But they could know I used a Tesla charger, but I can’t show proof of purchase of the proprietary adapter. This could be a problem if my Equi has future battery-pack problems? If GM can’t supply the approved adapter by Dec 31, I’m trading it for a ID4 or other that comes with an adapter! Great vehicle but for the $300 adapter.

You order it through the myChevrolet app, not the Tesla app. In the upper right corner there should be a circle with your initials. Click that then click public charging. Sometimes I have to click it twice to show the actual public charging options. You should see several options, one of them being Tesla. I think it says activate? Once you do that there will be a link to order the adapter.

Chevy or rather General Motors has the dumbest pain-in-ass method for automating charging there is. All I want to do is tell the car to start charging at midnight until it hits 80% then stop, thats it. Tesla does this just fine but with the Equinox EV you're messing with charging profiles, end times and all this stuff such that you can't just tell the to start charging at a certain time until its full. Its simple but GM will not fix it. People have been complaining about this on the Bolt and Lyric forums for years now with no fix in sight. Outside of that I love it.

In both I set the maximum to below 80% in the energy screen I think. I would think that if you leave that on and set the timer with enough time on the out that it would stop at 80%
@lashlarue59
@lashlarue59 Ай бұрын
@@rp9674 The point is all you should have to do is set a charge start time and the charge level; thats it and walk away from it. It should just start at that time and quit once it reaches the charge level. The other EV's I've used do this just fine but for reason GM does this is the worst possible way. The Equinox is a great car and I've recommended it to other people but this one thing is just super stupid.

If I'm correct, the only have you have to do is give it an exaggerated end time, and it should stop at the percentage you selected

One more thing, when talking about competitors it amazes me that the Mach E never comes up- it is one of the top 5 or 6 Evs in sales and it only has 150kw charging and charges only marginally faster than the Equinox EV and of course fully loaded it costs more than the Equinox. Which suggests that dcfc speeds are not necesarily the top concern for regular EV buyers- meanwhile the EV6 which shares all of the advantages of the Ioniq5 in terms of charging sells in relatively modest volume. Another data point, the Prologue has a real shot at becoming the best selling non Tesla EV next year and it has the same dcfc speed as the Equinox. If you charge at home 90% of the time this isn't a big deal.
@theaverageev
@theaverageev 2 ай бұрын
I agree about the Mach-e. I was just referencing EVs with sub 30 min 10-80% charges. I will say that the Mach-E is at least consistent, unlike the Equinox EV. The Prologue story is interesting, I know many people want the Chevy EVs but the no Carplay is a big deal and they don’t get it. Not sure if those buyers are going Honda?
@shethjones4494
@shethjones4494 2 ай бұрын
@@theaverageev my guess is a lot of the prologue buyers never even looked at the Chevy Evs. And the success of the prologue really calls into question the obsession over dcfc charge times- in fact it was one of the reasons why reviewers were lukewarm on the Honda when it launched. Now you can say for sure the Prologue doesn't charge any differently than the Equinox. ANd Im no expert on the consistency of the Mach e but my understanding is the pre-2024 models needed 40min to do 10-80% and Ford made some improvements for 2024. You do dcfc as part of your channel so you do it a lot, most do it so infrequently they aren't really going be tracking if it was 36min vs 40min or 42min and many of them probably won't do 10-80 or 20-80. Ive been to a dcfc 3 times in 5+ months and two were just for experimentation purposes. Also, depending on the trim of the ioniq5 (which I looked into and test drove) you may be looking at 230-240miles on the highway. The rwd model has equinox like range, but you can't get any nice features unless you step up to the AWD model with 265 mi of range per EPA but is under 250 in real world highway test. So the charging is super fast (if you can get 350kw) but you can't cover as much ground without needing to stop.
@paulwindisch1423

The irony is that the Prologue is a rebadged Chevy Blazer EV. Its specs should be nearly identical to the Blazer. That probably explains the similarity in charge speeds.
@shethjones4494
@shethjones4494 2 ай бұрын
@@paulwindisch1423 yes, this is widely known- my point is that it is outselling numerous Evs that have faster DCFC. When the prologue debuted most focus was on a)the fact it was made by GM much to the chagrin of reviewers and b)"slow" dcfc speeds. Thus far its been a sales success which has debunked some of the presumptions made by the auto media.

My Equinox 2RS has a problem turning off when I put my car in park and open the drivers door it shuts off about 30% of the time. If it dose not shout down when I open the door it will shut down when I close the door about 40% of the time and 10% of the time it won’t shut down at all and I have to get back into the car put it in drive and then back into park so the off button pops up on the screen and you have to turn it off manually. This is a pain and Chevy has no fix been to the dealer 3 times for this they have no idea what to do. Also I can not hook up anything to the sound system via USB not even my phone will connect by USB Chevy has no fix. These things don’t affect how the car performs but it’s a nuance The dealer can’t help I have called Chevy customer service talked with an engineer but no fix or idea on how to fix it.
