Chevrolet HHR Door Won't Stay Closed! How to fix....

This was a new one for me, but once I dug into it I found it wasn't a crazy difficult fix. Here is what I used:

1:36 In my case, by the way, it was the rear door on the driver's side. This is also the door that I use the least. This also speaks in favour of my observation that the old, sticky grease is to blame.

That is all very true. I couldn't believe the passenger door failed of all things. I cleaned, moved it, etc. Just seemed like something failed internally.

@@RubberCityMotoring Even after taking it apart, it was not easy to find the part that "failed" (stuck). The problematic part is at the very bottom (under other mechanical parts - hard to see), and it works like the hammer of a revolver. The hook of the lock is like the trigger, but the hammer is stuck. It is cocked, but does not release.

Yea if you are in this position of the door not staying closed, you really are stuck. Apologies I don't have a better answer other than replacing it.

@@RubberCityMotoring Update: I have fixed it! I removed the door lock and then disassembled it as far as possible into its individual parts (6 screws + a few clips). Nothing was really "broken". The old grease was just very hard and sticky - that's why the lock stayed in the open position. I cleaned it completely, oiled it and greased the moving parts where metal and plastic come into contact. Now it's like new! If this happens again (with another door), it will probably not be necessary to remove the lock at all. The electric motor for the central locking system is at the top and the problematic part is at the bottom. Using a spray can with a thin hose, you can get in far enough from the outside to lubricate the whole thing (without damaging the motor). The video was still helpful for the disassembly, thanks for that!
